Benzaknen® 5% Gel is a medicine used to treat acne. It contains the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide and is used in adolescents (12 years and older) and adults. The gel is applied thinly to the affected areas of the skin and should be used 1 to 2 times a day. The skin should be cleansed before application. The average duration of application is 4-12 weeks. For sensitive skin, it is recommended to apply once a day before going to bed. Benzaknen® 5% Gel is effective against acne and can show first visible results after only 1 to 2 weeks. It has antimicrobial properties and regulates excessive sebum production and cornification of the skin. Possible side effects are local irritations such as drying of the skin, a feeling of tension, flaking, burning and itching. The gel should not be applied to mucous membranes or the eye area. The package leaflet should be read before use and a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted in case of uncertainty. The gel is intended for external use on the skin and should be stored at room temperature away from heat. It may be used for a maximum of 3 months after opening. A doctor should be consulted before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Benzaknen® 5% Gel is available without a prescription and can be obtained from pharmacies.
