Directions for use of the article Bromhexin Hermes Arzneimittel 8 mg/ml Tropfen: Bromhexin Hermes Arzneimittel 8 mg/ml Drops are a bronchosecretolytic medicine for the expectorant treatment of acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with thick mucus. The drops contain the active substance bromhexine hydrochloride. The recommended dosage for adults and adolescents over 14 years of age is 23 to 46 drops 3 times a day (corresponding to 24 to 48 mg bromhexine hydrochloride daily). Adolescents between 12 and 14 years of age and patients under 50 kg body weight take 23 drops 3 times daily (corresponding to 24 mg bromhexine hydrochloride daily). For children under 12 years of age, alcohol-free drops with 12 mg/ml are available. The duration of use should be determined by the attending physician and if there is no improvement after 4-5 days or the clinical picture worsens, a doctor should be consulted. The drops should be taken undiluted and with sufficient liquid (e.g. water). For risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist. The drops contain 41% alcohol by volume, levomenthol, mint oil, eucalyptus oil and sucrose (sugar). The medicine must not be taken if there is an allergy to bromhexine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients. The drops should not be used in children under 12 years of age due to the alcohol content. Side effects such as gastrointestinal complaints (nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea) or allergic reactions may occur. In the event of an overdose, vomiting, visual disturbances, impaired consciousness and accelerated breathing may occur, in which case a doctor should be contacted immediately. The medicinal product should be protected from moisture and stored at room temperature. It can be stored for 6 months after opening, but must be tightly closed. Certain precautions should be taken, such as in case of allergy to ambroxol or certain spices, in alcoholics or liver patients, and in pregnant and breastfeeding women. This is only a summary.
