Nicotinell 14 mg/24-hour patch is a nicotine-containing transdermal patch used to support smoking cessation.The active ingredient nicotine helps to relieve the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and increase the success rates of smoking cessation.No prescription is required for this product.

Application and dosage

Always use Nicotinell 14 mg/24-hour patches exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.The patches are available in three active ingredient strengths: strong (21 mg), medium (14 mg) and light (7 mg).

With monotherapy, the starting dose depends on your previous smoking habits.For optimal treatment, you can use the following dosage regimen:

For smokers who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day, treatment begins with a strong patch (21 mg) for 3-4 weeks, followed by a medium-strength patch (14 mg) for another 3-4 weeks and a weak patch (7 mg) for the final 3-4 weeks.

For smokers who smoke less than 20 cigarettes per day, treatment begins with a medium strength patch (14 mg) for 3-4 weeks, followed by a medium strength patch (14 mg) for another 3-4 weeks and a weak patch (7 mg) for the final 3-4 weeks.

Apply a patch every day when you get up and leave it on your skin for 24 hours.Depending on your individual reaction, you can adjust the plaster strength.Withdrawal symptoms can be controlled by maintaining consistent nicotine concentrations in the blood.

In combination therapy, Nicotinell chewing gum 2 mg or Nicotinell lozenges 1 mg can also be used.The maximum daily dose of 64 mg (plaster + chewing gum or lozenges) must not be exceeded.

Type of application

For transdermal use (through the skin).Apply the patch to a healthy, hairless, dry and clean area of skin, preferably on the upper arm, shoulder area or upper hip.Press the patch for 10-24 seconds.Change the skin area daily.

Duration of application

The total duration of use can be up to 3 months (monotherapy) or 6 months (combination therapy).To avoid relapse, some former smokers may require longer use.

What should you do if the plaster no longer sticks?

If the adhesive effect is impaired, the plaster can be fixed with an active ingredient-free wound plaster.

Storage

Composition

The active ingredient is nicotine.One transdermal patch contains 35 mg of nicotine, with an average drug release of 14 mg over 24 hours.The other ingredients are basic butyl methacrylate copolymer, aluminum coated polyester film, poly[(2-ethylhexyl)acrylat-co-vinylacetat-co-(2-hydroxyethyl)acrylat-co-(2,3-epoxypropyl)methacrylat] (67:28:5:0.15), glycerol trialkanoate (C6-C12), paper and brown printing ink.

Contraindications

Nicotinell 14 mg/24-hour patch must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, a recent heart attack, a recent stroke, Raynaud's syndrome, pheochromocytoma, skin diseases that affect the entire body and/or are chronic, as well as in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.Non-smokers or occasional smokers should not use the medicine.

Important notes

Make sure that the medicine is kept out of the reach of children as it can cause serious poisoning.Smoking should be avoided as it interferes with drug treatment.
