Instructions for use of Calcium-Sandoz Forte effervescent tablets

Calcium-Sandoz Forte 500 mg is a mineral preparation that is used to prevent and treat calcium deficiency and to support special therapy to prevent and treat osteoporosis (bone loss).It is also used in addition to vitamin D3 to treat rickets (softening of growing bones in children) and osteomalacia (softening of bones in adults).No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

Calcium is an essential mineral that is necessary for bone formation and bone maintenance.It is absorbed in the small intestine and distributed throughout the body in the blood.Calcium plays an important role in nerve, muscle and heart function as well as blood clotting.It also mediates the effects of many hormones.In order to fulfill all of these tasks, calcium must be present in the required concentration in the relevant tissues.

Areas of application

Calcium-Sandoz Forte 500 mg is used to prevent and treat calcium deficiency and to support special therapy to prevent and treat osteoporosis.Additionally, it is used together with vitamin D3 to treat rickets and osteomalacia.

Dosage and application

The recommended dose for adults is 1 effervescent tablet 1 to 3 times daily, corresponding to 500-1,500 mg calcium.For children, the recommended dose is 1 effervescent tablet once or twice a day, corresponding to 500-1,000 mg calcium.The effervescent tablets should be dissolved in a glass of water (approximately 200 ml) and drunk immediately after dissolving.The duration of use depends on the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Calcium-Sandoz Forte 500 mg must not be taken if you are allergic to the active ingredient, sulfur dioxide or any of the other ingredients of the medicine, if the calcium level in the blood is increased, if calcium excretion in the urine is increased or if there are certain kidney disorders, including kidney stones and calcium deposits in the kidney tissue.

Side effects

Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, thirst, constipation, excessively high blood calcium levels, excessively high urinary calcium excretion, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, itching and rare serious allergic reactions.In rare cases, sulfur dioxide can cause severe hypersensitivity reactions and bronchial spasms.

Composition

The active ingredient is calcium (as calcium D-gluconate - calcium lactate (2:3) 2 H2O and calcium carbonate).One effervescent tablet contains 500 mg (12.5 mmol) calcium.The other ingredients are citric acid, macrogol 4000, sodium cyclamate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sorbitol, orange flavor (contains glucose, sorbitol and sulfur dioxide).

Storage

Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children and do not use it after the expiry date stated on the carton and bottom of the tube.Keep the tube tightly closed to protect the contents from moisture.Do not store above 30°C.

Important notes

Calcium Sandoz Forte 500 mg contains sodium, sorbitol and glucose.Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you need more than 2 effervescent tablets daily for a long period of time, especially if you are on a low-salt diet.If you suffer from sugar intolerance, only take this medicine after consulting your doctor.
