Ossofortin forte is an agent that affects bone structure and mineralization.It is used to support the treatment of osteoporosis.The medicine is a combination of vitamin and minerals.

Ossofortin forte contains the active ingredients calcium carbonate and colecalciferol (vitamin D).One chewable tablet contains 1500 mg calcium carbonate, equivalent to 600 mg calcium, and 4 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate, equivalent to 400 international units of vitamin D.Other ingredients include all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, flavor, gelatin, magnesium stearate, corn starch, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, sodium saccharin, silicon dioxide, xylitol and sugar (sucrose).

Contraindications

Ossofortin forte must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D, soy, peanut or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Also with increased calcium content in the blood (hypercalcemia), increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria), kidney limestones, tissue calcification of the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis), impaired kidney function (renal insufficiency), overactive parathyroid gland (primary hyperparathyroidism), vitamin D overdose, multiple bone marrow tumors (myeloma), secondary tumors in the bone(Bone metastases) or immobilization of limbs (immobilization osteoporosis) the medicine should not be used.Children and adolescents under 18 must not take Ossofortin forte.

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults is 1 chewable tablet twice daily, morning and evening.This corresponds to a daily dose of 1200 mg calcium and 800 international units of vitamin D. The chewable tablet should be chewed carefully before swallowing.Alternatively, it can also be sucked.It is taken during or after eating.The duration of intake depends on the doctor's instructions.

Intake

Take the chewable tablets with meals.For diabetics, please note that each chewable tablet contains 0.06 bread units (BE).

Patient information

Take special care when taking Ossofortin forte if you have previously had kidney stones or have a certain lung disease (sarcoidosis).During long-term treatment, your doctor will monitor your serum calcium levels and kidney function.This monitoring is particularly important in elderly patients and those taking cardiac glycosides or diuretics.If other vitamin D preparations are prescribed at the same time, additional administration of vitamin D or calcium should be carried out under medical supervision.If you suffer from impaired kidney function, you should receive other vitamin D supplements.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, Ossofortin forte should only be taken after a doctor has carefully weighed the benefits and risks and only in the dosage that is absolutely necessary to correct the deficiency.Overdoses of vitamin D during pregnancy must be prevented as long-term hypercalcemia can lead to physical and mental disability, aortic narrowing and retinal diseases in the child.Vitamin D and its metabolites pass into breast milk, but an overdose in infants caused by this route has not been observed.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Ossofortin forte can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include disorders of the gastrointestinal tract such as constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, flatulence and nausea.Hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria may occasionally occur.Rarely, itchy skin, rashes and hives may occur.Soybean oil can very rarely cause allergic reactions.

Storage
