Instructions for use for PVP-JOD AL Ointment, 25 g
Areas of application
PVP-JOD AL Ointment is an antiseptic for use on skin and wounds. It is used for repeated, temporary use on damaged skin, such as pressure sores (decubitus), lower leg ulcers (leg ulcers), superficial wounds, burns and infected and superinfected skin diseases.
Mode of action
PVP-JOD AL Ointment contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine, which acts as a germicidal agent.Povidone-iodine inhibits the spread of bacteria and fungi and thus supports wound healing.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
Ingredients of PVP-JOD AL Ointment: 1 g of ointment contains 100 mg povidone-iodine (average molecular weight 44,000) with a content of 10% available iodine. The other ingredients are Macrogol 400, Macrogol 4000, sodium hydroxide and purified water.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be used in cases of overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or other existing thyroid diseases, in the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, during and until the end of radiation therapy with iodine (radio-iodine therapy) or if such treatment is planned. The medicine should also not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to the active ingredient or one of the other ingredients.
Dosage
Apply PVP-JOD AL ointment evenly to the damaged area once or several times a day.The brown color of the ointment indicates its effectiveness.Extensive discoloration indicates exhaustion of effectiveness.
Intake
The ointment is applied several times a day if necessary, depending on the size of the area to be treated. For local, antiseptic-therapeutic use, the affected areas are completely coated.
Patient information
Particular caution is required when using it, as povidone-iodine must not be used simultaneously or shortly afterwards with mercury derivatives in order to avoid chemical burns caused by mercury iodide.Because of the oxidizing effect of povidone-iodine, various diagnostic tests can lead to incorrect results. When given povidone-iodine, iodine uptake by the thyroid gland may be reduced, which can lead to interference with certain thyroid tests.A waiting period of at least 1 - 2 weeks after discontinuation of povidone-iodine treatment should be observed before a new scintigram is taken.
Pregnancy
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the ointment should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner. In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the ointment by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the breastfeeding mother's body must be avoided.
Notes
PVP-JOD AL Ointment has a shelf life of 6 months after first use.No prescription is required for this product. For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
