What Ambroxol ratiopharm is and what it is used for?
Ambroxol ratiopharm is a medicine that is used to loosen mucus in respiratory diseases with thick mucus.It is used to treat acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs in which thick mucus is present.The active ingredient ambroxol hydrochloride helps to liquefy mucus and make it easier to cough up.
Areas of application
Ambroxol ratiopharm is used for the expectorant treatment of acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with thick mucus.This includes, for example, mucous cough, acute and chronic inflammation of the bronchial mucosa, asthma-like bronchitis, bronchial asthma with disorders of mucus elimination or pathological dilatation of the bronchi.
Composition
The active ingredient in Ambroxol ratiopharm is ambroxol hydrochloride.Each milliliter of the drops contains 7.5 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride and 6.84 mg of ambroxol.The auxiliary ingredients include potassium sorbate, hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment and purified water.
Dosage and application
Ambroxol ratiopharm should always be taken exactly as directed.The usual dose is:
Children up to 2 years take 1 ml drops twice a day.This corresponds to a daily dose of 15 mg ambroxol hydrochloride.Use in children under 2 years of age should only be carried out under medical supervision.
Children aged 2 to 5 years take 1 ml drops 3 times a day, which corresponds to a daily dose of 22.5 mg ambroxol hydrochloride.
Children aged 6 to 12 years take 2 ml drops 2 to 3 times a day, which corresponds to a daily dose of 30 to 45 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride.
Adolescents aged 12 and over and adults take 4 ml drops 3 times a day for the first 2 to 3 days, which corresponds to a daily dose of 90 mg ambroxol hydrochloride.The dose is then reduced to 4 ml drops twice a day, which corresponds to a daily dose of 60 mg ambroxol hydrochloride.
The drops should be taken diluted in liquid such as water, tea or juice after meals.A marked measuring cup is included in the pack for measuring the dose.
Duration of application
Ambroxol ratiopharm should not be taken for longer than 4 to 5 days without medical advice.If after this time there is no improvement or the clinical picture worsens, a doctor should be consulted.
Overdose
Serious symptoms of poisoning have not been observed in the event of an overdose of Ambroxol.Short-term restlessness and diarrhea have been reported.In the event of accidental or intentional extreme overdose, increased salivation, gagging, vomiting and a drop in blood pressure may occur.If an overdose occurs, a doctor should be contacted immediately.Acute measures such as inducing vomiting and gastric lavage should only be considered in the event of an extreme overdose.
Contraindications
Ambroxol ratiopharm must not be taken if there is hypersensitivity to ambroxol or any of the other ingredients.If you have impaired kidney function or severe liver disease, the interval between doses must be increased or the dose reduced.Children under 2 years of age may only use the medicine after consulting a doctor or under medical supervision.
Side effects
Possible side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.In addition, hypersensitivity reactions of the skin and mucous membranes such as itching, rash, facial swelling and attacks of shortness of breath may occur.In rare cases, fever may occur.
Storage
Ambroxol ratiopharm should be kept out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be taken after the expiry date stated on the folding box.Once opened, it has a shelf life of 3 months and should be stored at room temperature.
