Area of application

The medicine is a herbal product for the external treatment of muscle pain.It is used for painful muscle tension in the shoulder-arm area and in the spine area.A doctor should be consulted in the event of acute conditions that are accompanied by redness, swelling or overheating of joints, if there are persistent joint problems or if there is severe back pain that radiates to the arms and legs and/or is associated with neurological symptoms.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The active ingredient is cayenne pepper extract.100 g ointment contains: Cayenne pepper extract (1.5 - 2.5: 1) corresponding to 50 mg capsaicinoids calculated as capsaicin;Extractant: Ethanol 96% (V/V) 0.8 - 1.6 g.The other ingredients are: peanut oil, potassium sorbate, propylene glycol, purified water, glycerol 85%, rosemary oil, citric acid, sunflower oil, cetostearyl alcohol, sodium dodecyl sulfate, oecyl oleate, palmitoyl ascorbic acid, RRR-alpha-tocopherol, phospholipids from soybeans, glycerol (mono, dl)alkanoate (C14-C18), natural α-tocopherol mixture, dye E160c.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you have known hypersensitivity or allergy to cayenne pepper preparations or any of the other ingredients, damaged skin, e.g. burns and injuries, inflammation or eczema.Care should be taken to ensure that children do not allow their hands to come into contact with rubbed areas of skin.

Dosage

The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed the medicine differently.Please adhere to the application instructions, otherwise the product will not work properly.Unless otherwise prescribed, adults rub the ointment thinly into the affected areas up to 4 times a day.Do not use the ointment for longer than 3 weeks.If you are unsure, ask a doctor.A period of 14 days must be waited before re-application at the same application site.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.

Intake

Unless otherwise prescribed, adults rub the ointment thinly into the affected areas up to 4 times a day.

Patient information

Special precautions when using the drug: Cayenne pepper preparations, even in small quantities, are very irritating to the mucous membranes and produce a painful burning sensation.The medicine must therefore not get into the eyes, mucous membranes or open wounds.Additional application of heat should be avoided when treating with this preparation.Areas of skin treated with the product should not be washed with warm water or exposed to the sun, as this may increase burning or stinging.Physical activity (sweating) also increases the heat effect.After using the ointment, hands should be thoroughly cleaned.If the medicine gets into your eyes, you should consult an ophthalmologist immediately.As an immediate measure, thoroughly rinsing the eye with plenty of cold water is recommended.There are no sufficient studies on the use of this medicine in children.It should therefore not be used in children and adolescents under the age of 18.

Pregnancy

There are no sufficient studies on the use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Therefore, this medicine should not be used during this time.

Storage

The medicine must be stored away from heat.The medicine may be used for a maximum of 6 months after opening/preparation.The medicine must be stored at room temperature after opening/preparation.

Mode of action

The ingredient capsaicin comes from the cayenne pepper plant.About the plant itself: Appearance: annual, about knee-high plant with pointed, oval leaves on long stems on a bare, somewhat sparsely branched shoot tip.The small star-shaped flowers are white, long-stemmed and usually solitary.Origin: Central America, now cultivated in all warmer countries.Plant parts and preparations used: extracts, tinctures and ointments from the dried fruit with seeds.If capsaicin is applied to the skin, a pain-inducing messenger substance (substance P) is released from storage vesicles at this point.This initially causes burning pain and feelings of warmth. However, since practically the entire available supply of Substance P is depleted all at once and the body requires some time to replenish it, the treated area becomes less sensitive to pain during this period.In addition, capsaicin stimulates blood circulation by dilating the smallest blood vessels in the skin.The resulting warmth helps to relax painfully tense muscles.
