Area of application

Nystatin STADA® 500,000 IU coated tablets are a remedy for intestinal yeast diseases.It is used for the topical intestinal treatment of proven nystatin-sensitive yeast infections, especially if these occur as a result of therapy with antibiotics, cytostatics or corticosteroids.Symptoms such as bloating, intestinal cramps, recurrent diarrhea and itching can indicate such an infection.The active ingredient nystatin has proven itself in the treatment of intestinal fungi, such as Candida albicans.

The active ingredient is nystatin.One coated tablet contains 500,000 IU (International Units) of nystatin.The other ingredients are: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, corn starch, vegetable magnesium stearate, shellac, talc, sucrose, calcium carbonate, glucose syrup, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron (III) oxide (E 172), spray-dried arabic gum, white clay, macrogol 6000, glycerol 85%, capol600 (bleached wax, carnauba wax, shellac), vanillin.

Mode of action

The active ingredient nystatin damages the outer covering, the so-called cell membrane, of fungi.This shell therefore loses some of its functions, cell components escape and the cell can dissolve.Depending on the active ingredient concentration, the growth and reproduction of the fungi is inhibited or killed directly.

Dosage

The usual dose is 1 tablet 3 times a day.In severe cases you can take 2 tablets 3 times a day.Take the tablets after eating with enough liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).Treatment should be continued for approximately 2 weeks, even for a few days after complete healing.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to nystatin, a related active ingredient (amphotericin B, natamycin) or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.In addition, treatment with the medicine is not recommended in newborns, infants and young children due to possible difficulties swallowing.

Patient information

Take special care when taking the drug if you have an intolerance to glucose, lactose or sucrose.Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended.The medicine is not suitable for full-term newborns, infants and young children due to possible difficulty swallowing.Effects on the ability to drive and use machines have not yet been reported.

Pregnancy

The medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
