Instructions for use of Vitagel eye gel

Vitagel eye gel is an eye medicine containing vitamin A.The active ingredient retinol palmitate is used to support the treatment of atrophic conditions of the cornea and conjunctiva caused by vitamin A deficiency.These include conditions such as keratomalacia (corneal disease) and xerophthalmia (drying of the conjunctiva and cornea of the eye).It is also used for trophic disorders of the cornea and conjunctiva with mucin deficiency and largely preserved aqueous tear film.

Application

Vitagel eye gel is applied directly to the eye.The usual dosage is one drop into the conjunctival sac three times a day.The eyelids should be gently closed after instillation.In special cases, the gel can also be used hourly.It can be used without any time limit, usually until the symptoms subside.

Composition

The active ingredient retinol palmitate is contained in a concentration of 1000 international units per drop.In addition, the gel contains the excipients cetrimide, carbomer 13000-30000, medium-chain triglycerides, sorbitol, disodium edetate-2 water, peanut oil, butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, DL-α-tocopherol, sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment and water for injection purposes.

Mode of action

Retinol, also known as vitamin A, is a fat-soluble vitamin that is important for visual function, differentiation of certain cells, sperm formation, and embryonic development.A deficiency of vitamin A can lead to impaired light-dark adjustment, drying out and keratinization of the conjunctiva of the eyes and mucous membranes, as well as dryness, flaking and wrinkling of the skin.

Storage

Vitagel eye gel must be stored in the refrigerator at temperatures between 2 °C and 8 °C before first use.Once opened, the gel can be stored at room temperature and can be used for a maximum of four weeks.The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children.

Important notes

If several eye drops or eye ointments are used, there should be a gap between applications.Caution is advised if you are allergic to peanuts and soy.Antioxidants such as butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene can cause skin irritation and mucous membrane irritation.In general, before using a new medicine, any other medicine that is already being used should be reported to the doctor or pharmacist.
