Area of application
Biotin STADA 5 mg tablets is a vitamin supplement used to prevent and treat biotin deficiency.A biotin deficiency can result from an unbalanced diet or gastrointestinal diseases.Pregnant and breastfeeding women also have an increased need for biotin.Signs of a biotin deficiency can include fatigue, nervousness, irritability, dry or oily skin, hair loss, brittle hair and nails, gray deposits on the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat, inflammation of the tongue as well as nausea and loss of appetite.No prescription is required for this product.

The active ingredient in Biotin STADA 5 mg tablets is biotin.One tablet contains 5 mg of biotin.The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.), corn starch and povidone K 25.
Contraindications
Biotin STADA 5 mg tablets must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to biotin or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.If you have lactose intolerance, you should also not take the medicine.
Dosage
Always take Biotin STADA 5 mg tablets exactly according to the instructions in the package leaflet.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is 1 tablet (corresponding to 5 mg biotin) daily.For prophylaxis, less than 0.2 mg of biotin per day is sufficient.To treat multiple carboxylase deficiency, 1-2 tablets (corresponding to 5-10 mg biotin) can be taken daily.For lower dosages, preparations with a lower biotin content are available.The medicine is taken until biotin levels in the blood normalize.The duration depends on the course of the underlying disease.In the very rare case of biotin-dependent, multiple carboxylase deficiency, it is taken for life.
Intake
The tablet is swallowed whole with sufficient liquid.The score line is only used to divide the tablet for easier swallowing and not to divide it into equal doses.

Other
Deficiency symptoms do not normally occur in humans.However, consuming very large amounts of raw egg whites can cause a vitamin H deficiency.In the case of a hereditary defect, multiple carboxylase deficiency, the need for vitamin H is increased.A pronounced deficiency is evident in the skin and appendages and also results in certain psychiatric signs and gastrointestinal disorders.
