Areas of application

Biotin H Forte is used to prevent and treat biotin deficiency states.It is also used to treat biotin deficiency states in the very rare biotin-dependent multiple carboxylase deficiency.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each tablet contains 10 mg of biotin as an active ingredient.Microcrystalline cellulose, lactose-1-water, povidone K30, crospovidone and magnesium stearate are included as excipients.

Dosage and application

The usual dosage is 5-10 mg of biotin daily.To treat carboxylase deficiency, 1 tablet (equivalent to 10 mg biotin) is recommended daily.The tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid.To prevent biotin deficiency, less than 0.2 mg of biotin per day is sufficient.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if there is hypersensitivity to biotin or any of the other ingredients.

Interactions

There is evidence that medicines used to treat epileptic seizures (anticonvulsants) can reduce plasma levels of biotin.

Side effects

Very rarely, allergic skin reactions such as hives can occur.

The duration of use depends on the course of the underlying disease.There are no special restrictions for children and the elderly when used as intended.Biotin crosses the placenta and is excreted in breast milk.

Other

Deficiency symptoms do not normally occur in humans.However, ingesting very large amounts of raw egg whites can trigger skin inflammation due to a biotin deficiency.Egg protein contains the glucoprotein avidin, which forms a stable complex with biotin that cannot be broken down in the gastrointestinal tract.In multiple carboxylase deficiency, the biotin requirement is increased due to a genetic defect.A pronounced deficiency is evident in the skin and appendages of the skin as well as through psychological complaints and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
