Legapas drops is a herbal stimulating laxative.The active ingredient is cascarind fluid extract.The ingredients come from the plants European buckthorn and American buckthorn.These act as a natural mixture and contain anthranoids bound to sugar, which have a laxative effect by stimulating the large intestine.At the same time, they inhibit the recovery of water and salts from the intestine, so that the increase in volume causes the intestinal wall to become more stretched and emptying can occur earlier and more easily.A germicidal effect of anthranoids has also been proven.

Areas of application

Legapas drops are used for short-term use in cases of constipation.If constipation lasts longer than 1 week, you should see a doctor.No prescription is required for this product.

Dosage and application

Legapas drops should always be taken exactly as directed.The highest daily intake must not be more than 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives, which corresponds to 50 drops of Legapas drops.50 drops correspond to 1.7 ml. Unless otherwise prescribed, adults and young people aged 12 and over take 30-50 drops in half a cup of hot water once a day in the morning or evening.The personally correct dosage is the lowest required to obtain soft-formed stools.The effect occurs after 8-12 hours.

Duration of application

Stimulant laxatives must not be taken for a long period of time (more than 1-2 weeks) without medical advice.

Contraindications

Legapas drops should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, intestinal obstruction, appendicitis, inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease, abdominal pain of unknown cause, lack of fluids and in children under 12 years of age.Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects

Only side effects that have so far only occurred in exceptional cases are described for Legapas drops.If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Composition

1 g (= 1 ml = 30 drops) Legapas drops contain: fluid extract (1:1.0-1.2) from cascara bark 500 mg, corresponding to 20 mg hydroxyanthracene glycosides, calculated as cascaroside A, extractant: ethanol 30% (m/m).Other ingredients: Ethanol 90% (V/V), purified water.Contains 23% alcohol by volume.

Storage

Legapas drops should be kept out of the reach of children and not stored above 25°C.After opening, the medicine should be stored in the refrigerator for 14 days.Natural cloudiness and flocculation can occur with Legapas drops due to the high extract content.In this case, the contents of the bottle should be shaken briefly and the bottle should always be tightly closed after use and stored away from light.

Important notes

The urine may become discolored.Laxative medicines should only be used for a short time without a doctor's recommendation.Long-term use can lead to chronic constipation and/or other problems.If there is no success after short-term use, contact your doctor or pharmacist.Laxatives are not suitable for weight loss.The medicine contains small amounts of alcohol and should therefore be avoided by alcoholics.There may be medicines with which interactions occur.You should therefore generally tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting treatment with a new medicine that you are already using.
