Lopedium acute for acute diarrhea is a medication that contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adolescents aged 12 and over and adults if no causal therapy is available.No prescription is required for this product.

The active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride works by slowing the movements of the intestines and thus normalizing intestinal activity.This means that the body has more time to absorb water and electrolytes, causing the stool to become firmer again.In addition, pathogens are fought by the immune system.

Contraindications

Lopedium acute for acute diarrhea must not be taken if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients.Children under 12 years of age should also not take the medication.Furthermore, the medication must not be taken in conditions in which a slowing of intestinal activity must be avoided, such as constipation and intestinal obstruction.The medication must also not be taken in cases of diarrhea with blood in the stool and fever, in cases of diarrhea during or after taking antibiotics, in cases of chronic diarrheal diseases and in cases of colon inflammation.The medication should also not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Dosage

Adults take 2 capsules at the start of treatment.Then take 1 capsule after each additional unformed stool.The maximum daily dose of 6 capsules must not be exceeded.Children and adolescents aged 12 and over take 1 capsule at the start of treatment and after each subsequent unformed stool.The maximum daily dose of 4 capsules must not be exceeded by this patient group.The hard capsules should be swallowed whole with a little liquid.

Patient information

The medicine may only be used as prescribed by a doctor if you have or have had liver disease.Diarrhea can result in large losses of fluid and salt, so care must be taken to replace fluids and electrolytes.The recommended dosage and duration of use of 2 days must not be exceeded.If diarrhea persists after 2 days of treatment, the medicine must be stopped and a doctor consulted.Children under 2 years of age must not be treated with medicines containing loperamide.Children between the ages of 2 and 12 may only be treated with medicines containing loperamide as prescribed by a doctor.Store drug out of reach of children.You must not use the medicine after the stated expiry date.

Pregnancy
