Instructions for use of flax seeds
Flaxseeds are a herbal swelling agent that is used to regulate stools, for digestive problems and for external wound treatment. No prescription is required for this product.
Areas of application
Flaxseeds can be used internally and externally.Internally they help with stool constipation, colon damaged by laxative abuse, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammation of intestinal diverticula. They can also be used in the form of a mucous preparation for inflammation of the stomach lining and intestines. They are used externally in the form of a poultice for local inflammation.
Contraindications
Flaxseed must not be taken if there is an impending or existing intestinal obstruction, narrowing of the esophagus and in the gastrointestinal area, acute inflammatory bowel diseases and diseases of the esophagus and stomach entrance.Children under 6 years of age should not take flaxseed if they have constipation.Children under 12 years of age should not use flaxseed if they have inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract.
Precautions and warnings
Flaxseeds should always be taken with enough liquid to avoid premature swelling in the throat or esophagus. If you have difficulty swallowing, the preparation must not be taken. If you experience chest pain, vomiting or difficulty swallowing or breathing after taking it, you should consult a doctor immediately.
Interactions
Flaxseed can hinder the absorption of other drugs from the gastrointestinal tract.A gap of half an hour to one hour should therefore be maintained before and after taking medication.Bulking agents and medicines for diarrhea must not be administered at the same time as intestinal obstruction may occur.
Dosage instructions and method of application
If you have constipation, take a tablespoon full (approx. 10g) of uncrushed flaxseed with sufficient fluid 2 to 3 times a day.Children 6 to 12 years old take half the adult dosage. For inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, a mucus prepared from a tablespoon of crushed or uncrushed flaxseed and 150 ml of liquid is taken 2 to 3 times a day.During therapy with linseed, sufficient fluid intake - 1.5 to 2 liters daily - must be ensured. For external use, 30 to 50g of linseed flour is used to prepare a hot, moist poultice.
Side effects
If you follow the dosage instructions and drink enough fluids, there are no known side effects. If side effects occur that are not listed in this leaflet, they should be reported to the doctor or pharmacist.
Notes
100g of linseed corresponds to a nutritional value of approx. 1968 kJ (470 kcal), which, however, is not achieved when taking uncrushed linseed.Flaxseeds should be protected from light and moisture and kept out of the reach of children. After the expiry date they may no longer be used.
