Instructions for use of Cetirizine ratiopharm for allergies
Cetirizine ratiopharm for allergies is an over-the-counter medicine with the active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride.It is used to relieve nasal and eye symptoms of seasonal and year-round hay fever, as well as to treat chronic hives.No prescription is required for this product.
The medicine contains lactose as an excipient.Please note this if you have an intolerance to lactose.
Areas of application
Cetirizine ratiopharm is used to treat allergic diseases such as chronic hives, chronic allergic rhinitis, hay fever and as supportive treatment for allergic asthma.Typical symptoms that can be relieved include itching, hives, redness of the skin, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, nasal congestion, redness or itching of the eyes and tearing.
Mode of action
The active ingredient cetirizine inhibits the effects of the body's own substances histamine and prostaglandins.It prevents the release of these substances from the mast cells and displaces them from their binding sites.Histamine and prostaglandins play an important role in the development of inflammation and allergic reactions.
Composition
Each film-coated tablet contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride and 8.42 mg cetirizine as active ingredients.The excipients include lactose-1 water, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, hypromellose and macrogol 400.
Dosage and application
Cetirizine ratiopharm is suitable for children aged 6 and over, teenagers and adults.The recommended daily dose is 10 mg cetirizine.Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take one film-coated tablet daily.Children between 6 and 12 years receive half a tablet each morning and evening.The tablets can be swallowed whole with a glass of water or divided into two halves thanks to the score line.
It is taken regardless of meals.The duration of use depends on the type and course of the symptoms.For hay fever, 3-6 weeks of treatment are usually sufficient.Experience with chronic hives and chronic allergic rhinitis can last up to a year.
Contraindications
Cetirizine ratiopharm must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients, have severe kidney disease or in children under 6 years of age.If you have a tendency to seizures, such as epilepsy, or impaired kidney function, the medicine should only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
Side effects
Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, tiredness, sleepiness, restlessness, sore throat, dry mouth, runny nose, discomfort, skin hypersensitivity reactions such as itching and rash, malaise and general weakness.
Notes
In contrast to many other antihistamines, cetirizine ratiopharm has little or no sedative effect.However, some people may experience fatigue or slight dizziness.Before operating a motor vehicle or machine, pay attention to whether you or your child react individually with these symptoms.
