Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies is an anti-allergic drug used to relieve allergic symptoms.The active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride helps treat nasal and eye symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis as well as chronic hives.Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies is suitable for adults and children aged 6 years and over.No prescription is required for this product.
Areas of application
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies is used to relieve allergy symptoms such as itching, runny nose, watery eyes, and skin rashes.It is effective for chronic hives, chronic allergic rhinitis and hay fever.The active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride blocks the binding sites for histamine in the body and thus alleviates allergic reactions.
Mode of action
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies contains the active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride, which acts as an antihistamine.During an allergic reaction, the body releases histamine, which causes various symptoms such as redness, watery eyes, itching and swelling.Cetirizine blocks the binding sites for histamine and thus relieves allergic symptoms within an hour of ingestion.
Composition
One film-coated tablet of cetirizine HEXAL for allergies contains 10 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride as the active ingredient.The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 4,000, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.), highly dispersed silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide.Please note that the product contains lactose.
Dosage and application
The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age is 10 mg, one film-coated tablet, once daily.Children aged 6 to 12 should take 5 mg, i.e. half a film-coated tablet, twice a day.Patients with kidney failure are recommended to take 5 mg, i.e. half a film-coated tablet, once a day.The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid.The duration of use depends on the type, duration and course of the symptoms and should be discussed with a doctor.
Side effects
Like all medicines, cetirizine HEXAL can cause side effects when it comes to allergies, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, nausea, dry mouth, diarrhea, agitation, skin discomfort, abdominal pain, itching, rash, extreme tiredness, malaise, depression, hallucination, aggression, confusion, insomnia, seizures, rapid heartbeat, abnormal liver function, itchy rash, edema, weight gain, low platelet count, tics, loss of consciousness,involuntary movements, pathological, persistent involuntary muscle tension, tremor, altered sense of taste, blurred vision, accommodation disorders, oculogyration, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, fixed drug eruption, abnormal urination, increased appetite, suicidal thoughts, nightmares, memory loss, memory impairment, vertigo, urinary retention, intense itching and/or hives when stopping taking the medication,Joint pain, rash with blisters containing pus, and hepatitis.
Contraindications
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies must not be taken if you have severe kidney disease, are allergic to cetirizine dihydrochloride, hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives or if you suffer from sugar intolerance.Children under 6 years of age should not take the medicine.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicine should only be taken after consulting a doctor.
Notes
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies contains lactose.Avoid taking cetirizine HEXAL at the same time if you have allergies and alcohol.The medicine should not be taken if you have allergies while breastfeeding.Note for diabetics: 1 film-coated tablet contains less than 0.01 bread units (BE).Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Storage
If you have allergies, keep cetirizine HEXAL out of the reach of children.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister pack.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.Never dispose of medicines via wastewater.Ask your pharmacy how to throw away medicine when you no longer use it.
