Instructions for use of cetirizine HEXAL for allergies 10 mg film-coated tablets
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies is an antiallergic drug used to relieve nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and to relieve symptoms of chronic hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria).The active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride helps suppress the body's allergic reactions.

Areas of application
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies is used in adults and children from 6 years of age.It helps in relieving:
Nasal and eye symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, such as itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
Symptoms of chronic hives, such as itching, hives and redness of the skin.
Mode of action
Cetirizine dihydrochloride, the active ingredient of cetirizine HEXAL for allergies, is an antihistamine.During an allergic reaction, the body releases various messenger substances, including histamine.Histamine causes reactions such as redness, watery eyes, itching and swelling.Cetirizine blocks the binding sites for histamine in the body, alleviating allergic symptoms within an hour of ingestion.
Composition
1 Film-coated tablet of cetirizine HEXAL for allergies contains:
Active ingredient: 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride
Other ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 4,000, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.), highly dispersed silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide.
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies contains lactose.If you have allergies, please only take cetirizine HEXAL after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from sugar intolerance.
Dosage and application
If you have allergies, always take cetirizine HEXAL exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid.The film-coated tablets can be divided into equal doses.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 10 mg once daily as 1 film-coated tablet.
Children 6-12 years: 5 mg twice daily as 1/2 film-coated tablet twice daily.
Patients with kidney failure: Patients with moderate kidney failure are recommended to take 5 mg as 1/2 film-coated tablet once daily.If you have severe kidney disease, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist, who can adjust your dose accordingly.
The length of time you take it depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Side effects
Like all medicines, cetirizine HEXAL can cause side effects when allergic to allergies, although not everyone gets them.
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): drowsiness, dizziness, headache, sore throat, runny nose (in children), diarrhea, nausea, dry mouth, tiredness.
Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): agitation, skin discomfort, stomach pain, itching, rash, extreme tiredness, feeling unwell.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): allergic reactions, some of them serious (very rare), depression, hallucination, aggression, confusion, insomnia, seizures, fast heartbeat, abnormal liver function, itchy rash, edema (swelling), weight gain.
Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): low blood platelet count, tics (recurrent nervous muscle twitches and vocalizations), loss of consciousness, involuntary movements, pathological, persistent involuntary muscle tension, tremor (shaking), altered sense of taste, blurred vision, accommodation disorders (disturbances in the eye's ability to adapt to near/distance), oculogyration(uncontrollable circular movement of the eyes), angioedema (serious allergic reaction causing swelling of the face or throat), anaphylactic shock, fixed drug eruption, abnormal urination (bedwetting, pain and/or difficulty urinating).
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data): increased appetite, suicidal ideation (recurrent thoughts of or preoccupation with suicide), nightmares, memory loss, memory impairment, vertigo, urinary retention (inability to completely empty the bladder), intense itching and/or hives when stopping taking the drug, joint pain, rash with blisters containing pus, hepatitis (inflammation of the liver).
If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.This also applies to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.
Contraindications
Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies must not be taken if you have severe kidney disease (severe impairment of kidney function with a creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min) or if you are allergic to cetirizine dihydrochloride, hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age as the film-coated tablets cannot be used to adjust the required dose.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy: Taking cetirizine HEXAL for allergies should be avoided in pregnant women.Accidental ingestion of the drug by pregnant women should not cause adverse health effects to the fetus.However, the medicine should only be taken if necessary and according to medical advice.
Breast-feeding: Cetirizine passes into breast milk.Side effects associated with cetirizine may be observed in breast-fed infants.Therefore, until you have consulted your doctor, you should not take cetirizine HEXAL if you have allergies while breastfeeding.
Interactions with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
No clinically significant interactions were observed between alcohol (at a blood level of 0.5 per mille [g/l], equivalent to approximately 1 glass of wine) and cetirizine at recommended doses.However, there are no safety data when higher doses of cetirizine and alcohol are taken together.Therefore, as with all antihistamines, it is recommended to avoid taking cetirizine HEXAL at the same time if you have allergies and alcohol.
Storage
Keep this medicine out of the reach and reach of children.You must not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and blister pack after “use by”.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Never throw away medicines via wastewater (e.g. not down the toilet or sink).Ask your pharmacy how to throw away medicine when you no longer use it.In doing so, you contribute to protecting the environment.
