Important notes

Dosage and application

The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid.The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age is 10 mg once daily as one film-coated tablet.For children 6 to 12 years of age, the recommended dose is 5 mg twice daily as half a film-coated tablet twice daily.Patients with kidney failure are recommended to take 5 mg once daily as half a film-coated tablet.The length of time you take it depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Side effects

Like all medicines, cetirizine HEXAL can cause side effects when it comes to allergies, although not everyone gets them.Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, sore throat, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, dry mouth and fatigue.Uncommon side effects include agitation, skin discomfort, abdominal pain, itching, rash and extreme tiredness.Rare side effects include allergic reactions, depression, hallucination, aggression, confusion, insomnia, seizures, rapid heartbeat, abnormal liver function, itchy rash, edema and weight gain.Very rare side effects include low platelet count, tics, loss of consciousness, involuntary movements, abnormal, persistent involuntary muscle tension, tremor, altered sense of taste, blurred vision, accommodation disorders, oculogyration, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, fixed drug eruption, abnormal urination, increased appetite, suicidal thoughts, nightmares, memory loss, memory impairment, vertigo,Urinary retention, intense itching and/or hives when stopping taking the drug, joint pain, rash with blisters containing pus and hepatitis.

Storage

Composition

Cetirizine HEXAL for allergies contains the active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride.One film-coated tablet contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride.The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 4,000, magnesium stearate, highly dispersed silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide.

Mode of action

The active ingredient cetirizine dihydrochloride helps with allergies and relieves itching.It suppresses the effects of the body's own substance histamine and prostaglandins in two ways: Firstly, it inhibits the release of the substances from the mast cells (special defense cells) of the blood and tissue;secondly, it displaces the substances from their binding sites.Histamine and prostaglandins play an important role as tissue hormones and messenger substances in the development of inflammation and allergic reactions.
