No prescription is required for this product.
Product features
Mepilex Transfer is a drainable exudate dressing made of soft silicone. This dressing is highly customizable and transports exudate. In combination with a suitable secondary dressing, it maintains a moist wound environment and minimizes the risk of maceration. The dressing features a Safetac wound contact layer, a unique adhesive technology that minimizes patient pain and trauma to wounds and surrounding skin when removing the dressing.Mepilex Transfer consists of a wound contact layer made of soft silicone (Safetac) and a thin, flexible absorbent pad made of polyurethane foam. The dressing is suitable for a variety of exuding wounds and can also be used as protection for damaged and/or sensitive skin.
Scope of application
Mepilex Transfer can also be used by laypeople under the supervision of a medical professional. To use, clean the wound according to clinical practice and carefully dry the surrounding skin.Choose the appropriate dressing size, which should cover the dry skin surrounding the wound by at least 1 - 2 cm for the smaller sizes and 3 - 5 cm for the larger sizes. The dressing can be adapted to different wound shapes and locations.Remove the first protective film and place the adhesive side on the wound.Remove the remaining protective film and smooth the bandage onto the skin without stretching it.Apply an appropriate secondary dressing and secure as necessary to maintain a moist wound environment.
For moderately to heavily exuding wounds, use an absorbent secondary dressing over Mepilex Transfer and secure it with, for example, Tubifast, stockings or a bandage. For non-exuding or slightly exuding wounds or to protect sensitive skin, use a breathable film bandage or Tubifast for fixation. The dressing change interval for Mepilex Transfer can be several days.Change the dressing before it is fully saturated, if there is evidence of leakage, or according to clinical practice. If a secondary absorbent dressing is used, this dressing may need to be changed more frequently than the underlying Mepilex Transfer dressing.Change the secondary dressing before it is fully saturated, if there is evidence of leakage, or according to clinical practice. When changing the secondary dressing, clean the skin surrounding the wound and check the wound regularly. If Mepilex Transfer is used for protection, check the underlying skin regularly.
Mepilex Transfer can be used under compression bandages and in combination with gels.
Precautions
Do not use Mepilex Transfer in patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.Do not use the dressing with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide. If you see signs of clinical infection, such as fever or if the wound or surrounding skin becomes red, warm or swollen, contact a healthcare professional for appropriate treatment.Do not reuse the bandage. If reused, product performance may be impaired and contamination transfer may occur. The bandage is sterile.Do not use if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened before use.Do not re-sterilize the dressing.
