Mepilex Transfer is a drainable exudate dressing made of soft silicone.This highly customizable dressing transports exudate and, when combined with an appropriate secondary dressing, maintains a moist wound environment, minimizing the risk of maceration.The dressing features a Safetac wound contact layer, a unique adhesive technology that minimizes patient pain and trauma to wounds and surrounding skin when removing the dressing.Mepilex Transfer consists of a wound contact layer made of soft silicone (Safetac) and a thin, flexible absorbent pad made of polyurethane foam.The dressing is suitable for a variety of exuding wounds and can also be used as protection for damaged and/or sensitive skin.

Scope of application

Mepilex Transfer can also be used by laypeople under the supervision of a medical professional.The application takes place in several steps: First, the wound is cleaned according to clinical practice and the skin surrounding the wound is carefully dried.The appropriate dressing size is then selected, which should cover the dry skin surrounding the wound by at least 1 - 2 cm (for smaller sizes up to 12.5 × 12.5 cm) or 3 - 5 cm (for larger sizes).The dressing can be adapted to different wound shapes and locations if necessary.

After removing the first protective film, the adhesive side is placed on the wound.The remaining protective film is then removed and the bandage is smoothed onto the skin without stretching it.An appropriate secondary dressing is applied and secured if necessary to maintain a moist wound environment.For moderately to heavily exuding wounds, an absorbent secondary dressing is placed over Mepilex Transfer and secured, for example with Tubifast, stockings or a bandage.In the case of non- to slightly exuding wounds or to protect sensitive skin, a breathable film bandage or Tubifast can be used for fixation.

The dressing change interval for Mepilex Transfer can be several days.The dressing should be changed before it is fully saturated, if there is evidence of leakage, or according to clinical practice.If a secondary absorbent dressing is used, it may need to be changed more frequently than the underlying Mepilex Transfer dressing.When changing the secondary dressing, the skin surrounding the wound should be cleaned and the wound checked regularly.If Mepilex Transfer is used for protection, the underlying skin should be checked regularly.

Mepilex Transfer can be used under compression bandages and in combination with gels.

Precautions

No prescription is required for this product.Mepilex Transfer should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to the dressing or its materials.The dressing must not be used together with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide.If there are signs of clinical infection, such as fever or if the wound or surrounding skin becomes red, warm or swollen, a healthcare professional should be consulted to receive appropriate treatment.The dressing must not be reused as this may affect the performance of the product and lead to contamination transfer.Mepilex Transfer is sterile and must not be used if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened before use.Re-sterilization is not permitted.
