Instructions for use for Pangrol 40000 gastro-resistant capsules, 50 pieces
Description
Pangrol is a medicine that contains digestive enzymes from the pancreas of pigs. These enzymes, also called pancreatic powder or pancreatin, aid digestion in people with reduced pancreatic function. No prescription is required for this product.
Area of application
Pangrol is used to treat digestive disorders caused by inadequate or absent pancreatic function. These digestive disorders can be caused by a variety of factors, including chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, or other diseases that affect the function of the pancreas.
Active ingredients and ingredients
Each Pangrol enteric-coated hard capsule contains porcine pancreas powder with a lipase activity of 40,000 Ph.-Eur. units, an amylase activity of 25,000 Ph.-Eur. units and a protease activity of 1,500 Ph.-Eur. units. In addition, Pangrol contains the following excipients: gelatin, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer, simeticone, talc, triethyl citrate, titanium dioxide, iron oxides and hydroxides, indigo carmine and sodium dodecyl sulfate.
Contraindications
Pangrol should not be taken if you are allergic to pancreas powder, pork or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. In addition, Pangrol should not be taken in cases of acute inflammation of the pancreas or an acute attack of chronic inflammation of the pancreas during the full-blown phase of the disease. However, in the decline phase during the dietary build-up, it may occasionally make sense to take it.
Dosage
The dosage of Pangrol depends on the severity of the indigestion.A dose of 1 capsule per meal is generally recommended, which corresponds to 40,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase per meal. However, the dosage can be adjusted as needed. The dose should only be increased under medical supervision and should be aimed at improving the symptoms of the disease.A daily enzyme dose of 15,000 to 20,000 units of lipase per kilogram of body weight should not be exceeded.
The duration of use is not subject to any restrictions and depends on the course of the disease. If you don't feel better or even feel worse, contact your doctor. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.
If you take more than you should, drink plenty of water and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.Repeated high doses of pancreas powder can cause scarring or thickening of the intestinal wall, which can lead to intestinal blockage.Extremely high doses can lead to an increase in uric acid in the blood and urine, especially in cystic fibrosis patients.
If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose, but please continue treatment as recommended. If you stop taking it, your symptoms may return. Please consult your doctor.
Intake
Take the capsule whole without chewing with sufficient liquid, preferably in the middle of the meal.If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule whole, you can carefully open it over a suitable container by pulling it apart and swallow the contents with a little liquid immediately and without chewing.Be careful not to crush or chew the capsules or their contents, otherwise the medicine will lose its effectiveness and the enzymes it contains can damage the mucous membrane if released into the oral cavity.
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Pangrol, especially if you have cystic fibrosis and are taking high doses.Tell your doctor about any unusual abdominal discomfort or changes in abdominal symptoms. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop treatment and talk to your doctor.Pangrol contains active enzymes that, when released into the oral cavity, can cause mucous membrane damage.Make sure to take the medicine without chewing.
Children under 15 years of age with cystic fibrosis should not be treated with Pangrol. The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicines. There is insufficient experience with the use of Pangrol in pregnant women. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you should not take this medicine unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
Notes
Care must be taken to swallow the preparation whole, as it contains active enzymes that, if released into the oral cavity, can cause damage to the mucous membrane. The absorption of folic acid can be reduced by taking pancreas powder, so additional folic acid intake may be necessary. The effect of the blood sugar-lowering active ingredients acarbose and miglitol can be reduced by taking Pangrol at the same time.Allergic reactions have been described in individual cases. If this allergic reaction occurs, the preparation must be stopped immediately and a doctor must be consulted as soon as possible.
In patients with cystic fibrosis, increased uric acid excretion in the urine may occur, especially when taking high doses of pancreatin. Therefore, uric acid excretion in the urine should be controlled in these patients to avoid the formation of uric acid stones. The preparation must not be taken in acute pancreatitis or an acute attack of chronic pancreatitis during the florid phase of the disease.
