Application

This medicine contains digestive enzymes from the pancreas of pigs, also known as pancreatic powder or pancreatin.It is used to treat digestive disorders caused by reduced pancreatic function.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each capsule contains 366.7 milligrams of porcine pancreas powder, which includes the enzymes triacylglycerol lipase, amylase and proteases.The following excipients are also included: iron(III)hydroxide oxide x-water, iron(III)oxide, Eudragit L 30 D-55, gelatin, indigo carmine, sodium dodecyl sulfate, simeticon emulsion 30%, talc, titanium dioxide, triethyl citrate and sodium ions.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to pancreas powder, pork or any of the other ingredients.Its use is also contraindicated in cases of acute inflammation of the pancreas or during an acute episode of chronic inflammation of the pancreas in the fully developed phase of the disease.

Dosage

The dosage should always be in consultation with your doctor.The recommended dose is one capsule per meal, which corresponds to 40,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase.The exact dosage depends on the severity of the indigestion and can therefore be higher.The dose should only be increased under medical supervision.The daily enzyme dose should not exceed 15,000 to 20,000 units of lipase per kilogram of body weight.

The duration of use is not limited and depends on the course of the disease.If you don't feel better or feel worse, contact your doctor.In the event of an overdose, you should drink plenty of water and contact your doctor or pharmacist.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose but continue treatment as recommended.Stopping treatment may cause your symptoms to return.

Intake

Take the capsule whole without chewing with sufficient liquid, preferably in the middle of the meal.If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule whole, you can carefully open it and swallow the contents with a little liquid immediately and without chewing.Be careful not to crush or chew the capsules or their contents, as this may reduce their effectiveness and damage the mucous membrane.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine, especially if you have cystic fibrosis and are taking high doses.If you experience an allergic reaction, stop treatment and consult a doctor.Children under 15 years of age with cystic fibrosis should not be treated with this medicine.The medicine has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicines.There is insufficient experience with the use of the drug in pregnant women.

Notes

It is important to swallow the preparation whole as it contains active enzymes that, if released into the oral cavity, can cause damage to the mucous membrane.The absorption of folic acid may be reduced, so additional folic acid intake may be necessary.The effect of blood sugar-lowering agents such as acarbose and miglitol can be reduced.In individual cases, allergic reactions may occur.Increased uric acid excretion in the urine may occur in patients with cystic fibrosis.
