Vidisic eye gel is a tear substitute used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye. It is used to replace the tear fluid when tear production is disturbed. The gel contains the active ingredient carbomer. The dosage depends on the severity of the symptoms and should be administered 3 to 5 times a day or more frequently. One drop is placed in the conjunctival sac before going to bed. Use in children and adolescents up to 18 years of age is possible, but there are no data from clinical studies. The gel is applied directly to the eye and can be used long-term. Care should be taken during application not to contaminate the eyelid or the gel. The gel should be protected from children and should not be used after the expiry date. No specific overdose reactions are known. Possible side effects are intolerance reactions or irritation of the eye. Use should be avoided in case of hypersensitivity to carbomer or other components of the gel. Interactions with other medicines may occur and therefore any other medicines should be reported to the doctor or pharmacist before treatment. The gel also contains the preservative cetrimide, which may cause irritation with long-term use. After opening, the gel should not be used for longer than 6 weeks. It should be stored at room temperature. This preparation is manufactured by Dr. Gerhard Mann.
