Instructions for use for DYNEXAN Herpes cream, 2 g
Directions for use of Dynexan herpes cream: Dynexan herpes cream contains the active ingredient aciclovir and is used for the soothing treatment of pain and itching in frequently recurring herpes infections with blister formation in the lip area. The active ingredient inhibits the growth of certain viruses. There are a few things to be aware of before use. The cream must not be used if you are hypersensitive to aciclovir or any of the other ingredients, or if the application is on mucous membranes, as irritation may occur. In the case of a severe disorder of the body's immune system, the cream should only be used after consulting a doctor. No interactions with other medicines are known to date. During pregnancy, the cream should only be used after a prior risk-benefit assessment by the doctor. Aciclovir passes into breast milk to a small extent, therefore contact of the child with the treated body parts should be avoided. There are no known adverse effects on the ability to drive or operate machinery. The cream should be applied at the first signs of herpes disease to achieve the best possible treatment success. It should be applied thinly to the affected skin areas 5 times a day, every 4 hours during the day. The duration of treatment is usually 5 days. If the skin symptoms worsen during treatment or if the blisters have not crusted over or healed after 10 days, a doctor should be consulted. Possible side effects of the cream may include temporary burning or stinging on the treated skin areas, redness, drying, itching and flaking of the skin. In rare cases, an allergic skin reaction may occur. If side effects occur, a doctor should be contacted. The cream should be kept out of reach of children. No special precautions are required for storage. The cream contains 50 mg aciclovir per 1 g cream as the medicinally active ingredient. Other ingredients are cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, glycerol monostearate, macrogol stearate 1500, thin paraffin, propylene glycol, white vaseline and purified water. The mode of action of the ingredient aciclovir is that it fights certain viruses by damaging their genetic material and hindering their reproduction. Special care should be taken in case of allergy to emulsifiers, solvents or paraffin as well as pregnancy or breastfeeding. The commercial forms of Dynexan herpes cream are packs of 1 tube containing 2 g of cream. Source: Dynexan Herpes Cream package leaflet, as of April 2009.Medicines Reviews
