Ringer lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun is a solution for the supply of fluids and salts to the body. It is used when fluids and salts are needed. This may be the case when the acid-base balance is normal or the blood is slightly acidified, when water, salt or blood loss has occurred or when medicines need to be dissolved or diluted. Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun must not be used if the utilisation of lactate is impaired or if there is too much water in the body (water intoxication). Special precautions should be taken in patients with certain conditions such as heart, liver or kidney failure. Dosage depends on the weight and condition of the patient. Possible side effects include overhydration, disturbances of salt and acid-base balance and high salt concentration in the blood.
