Directions for use of the article Cordes BPO 5 % Gel. Cordes BPO 5 % Gel is a medicinal product for acne and contains the active substance benzoyl peroxide. It is used for the treatment of all forms of endogenous acne (acne vulgaris). The gel should be applied thinly to the affected areas of skin, but should not be massaged into healthy skin. It should be applied once or twice a day, depending on the skin sensitivity. The average duration of application is 4-10 weeks. There are some important instructions to follow before using Cordes BPO 5 % Gel. It should not be used if there is an allergy to benzoyl peroxide or other components of the medicine. It should also not be used on previously damaged skin or near mucous membranes such as the eyes, mouth and nose. More intensive UV-irradiation of the skin areas treated with the gel should be avoided. Some side effects may occur, especially mild skin irritation such as redness, itching, tightness and burning at first. These phenomena should normally subside within a few days. If the symptoms persist for more than 5 days or worsen, the gel should be discontinued and a doctor consulted. Occasionally, allergic reactions or sensitisation of the skin may also occur. There are also certain contraindications to the use of Cordes BPO 5 % Gel. It should not be used if there is an allergy to the ingredients or dry skin with a tendency to allergies. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the gel should only be used after careful consultation with a doctor. The gel should be kept out of reach of children and should not be stored above 25 °C.
