Each tablet contains 261.6 micrograms of potassium iodide, which is equivalent to 200 micrograms of iodide ion.The preparation also contains the following excipients: cellulose powder, microcrystalline cellulose, 84 milligrams of lactose-1-water, magnesium stearate, corn starch and highly disperse silicon dioxide.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, if there are certain nodules or areas in the thyroid gland that produce thyroid hormone uncontrollably, or if there is an allergy to iodide or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.If you are unsure, you should speak to your doctor.

Dosage

The daily dosage of iodide depends on the individual iodine supply and the intended use.General guidelines are:

To prevent iodine deficiency goiter: 50 to 100 micrograms of iodide per day for infants and children, 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day for adolescents, adults, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

To prevent goiter regrowth: 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day.

For the treatment of iodine deficiency goiter in newborns, children and adolescents: 100 to 200 micrograms of iodide per day for newborns and children, 200 micrograms of iodide per day for adolescents.

The duration of treatment may vary.Long-term, sometimes lifelong, use is often required to prevent goiter growth.To treat goiter in newborns, 2 to 4 weeks are usually sufficient; for children, adolescents and adults, 6 to 12 months or longer are usually necessary.

No prescription is required for this product.

Intake

The medicine is intended to be taken orally.Take the daily dose after a meal with some liquid, such as half a glass of water.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking iodide if you have previously had an overactive thyroid or goiter.In such cases, a doctor should be consulted before starting therapy with iodide.A doctor should also be informed if you have an enlarged thyroid with nodules or if examinations or therapies with radioiodine are planned.

Iodide has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

Notes

Before using iodine and preparations containing iodine, it should be checked whether there is an overactive thyroid or a nodular goiter.The administration of iodine can make planned radioiodine treatment impossible.If a malignant thyroid tumor is suspected, iodine administration should be avoided.
