Vomacur® 50 mg tablets

Vomacur® 50 mg tablets are an over-the-counter medicine for nausea and vomiting that belongs to the group of H1 antihistamines.It is used to prevent and treat motion sickness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Mode of action

The active ingredient dimenhydrinate in Vomacur® 50 mg tablets is effective against nausea and vomiting that are not caused by chemotherapy treatment.It also prevents motion sickness.Dimenhydrinate works by counteracting an excess of histamine secreted by binding to the H1 receptors.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Vomacur® 50 mg tablets contain the active ingredient dimenhydrinate.Each tablet contains 50 mg dimenhydrinate.The preparation also contains the following other ingredients: calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, carboxymethyl starch sodium (type A), microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate and highly disperse silicon dioxide.

Contraindications

Vomacur® 50 mg tablets must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to dimenhydrinate, other antihistamines or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.The preparation must also not be used in acute asthma attacks, glaucoma (angle-closure glaucoma), adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), disorder of blood pigment production (porphyria), enlargement of the prostate gland (prostatic hyperplasia) with residual urine formation and seizures (epilepsy, eclampsia).

Dosage

The tablets should be swallowed whole and with plenty of liquid.The dosage of dimenhydrinate should be based on the patient's body weight.In smaller children, a single dose may be enough to relieve symptoms.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, daily doses of 5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight should not be exceeded.This means that children weighing less than 30 kg should generally not receive more than 2 tablets a day.

Adults and adolescents over 14 years of age take 1 - 2 tablets (corresponding to 50 - 400 mg dimenhydrinate) 1 to 4 times daily, but not more than 8 tablets/day (corresponding to 400 mg dimenhydrinate/day).Children aged 6 to 14 years take 1/2 - 1 tablet (corresponding to 25 - 150 mg dimenhydrinate) 1 to 3 times daily, but not more than 3 tablets/day (corresponding to 150 mg dimenhydrinate/day).The preparation is available as a suppository for children up to 6 years of age.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the medicine is only intended for short-term use.If symptoms persist, you should consult a doctor.After 2 weeks of treatment at the latest, your doctor should check whether treatment with the product is still necessary.

Patient information

Particular caution when taking the drug is required in case of impaired liver function, cardiac arrhythmias, potassium or magnesium deficiency, slow heartbeat, certain heart diseases, simultaneous use of drugs that prolong the QT-interval in the EKG or lead to hypokalemia, chronic breathing difficulties and asthma, as well as narrowing at the outlet of the stomach.In these cases, the preparation may only be taken after consulting a doctor.

Drowsiness, memory problems and reduced ability to concentrate can have an adverse effect on the ability to drive or work with machines.This is particularly true after insufficient sleep, when starting treatment and changing medications, and in combination with alcohol.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Before taking, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.Dimenhydrinate can cause premature labor.The safety of using the drug during pregnancy has not been proven.You may only take the preparation after consulting your doctor and only if he or she considers it to be absolutely necessary.

Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.Dimenhydrinate passes into breast milk.The safety of using the drug during breastfeeding has not been proven.Since undesirable effects, such as increased restlessness, on the breastfed child cannot be ruled out, you should either not take the product while breastfeeding or stop breastfeeding while you are taking the drug.

Notes

Keep out of the reach of small children.Suitable for children aged 6 and over.To prevent motion sickness, the first dose is given approx. 1/2 - 1 hour before the start of the journey. To treat nausea and vomiting, doses are given at regular intervals throughout the day.After using dimenhydrinate, skin sensitivity to light may occur, so avoid direct sunlight.

Dimenhydrinate is not suitable for the sole treatment of nausea and vomiting following drug treatment for cancer (cytostatic therapy).Note for people with diabetes: 1 tablet contains less than 0.01 BE.Contains lactose.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Application

Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, adults and young people over 14 years of age and over 56 kg body weight take 1 to 2 Vomacur® 50 mg tablets (equivalent to 50 to 400 mg dimenhydrinate) 1 to 4 times a day, unchewed, with plenty of liquid throughout the day.The maximum dose of 8 tablets within 24 hours must not be exceeded.The recommended dose for children aged 6 to 14 and weighing more than 30 kg is ½-1 tablet (corresponding to 25-150 mg dimenhydrinate) 1 to 3 times a day, but not more than 3 tablets/day (corresponding to 150 mg dimenhydrinate/day).

To prevent motion sickness, take it for the first time approx. 30 to 60 minutes before the start of your journey.There should be an interval of at least 6 hours between two doses.
