Vomacur® 40 mg suppositories is a medicine used to prevent and treat motion sickness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.It belongs to the group of H1 antihistamines and is available without a prescription.The medication is especially suitable for toddlers and children weighing more than 8 kg.

Mode of action

The active ingredient dimenhydrinate in Vomacur® 40 mg suppositories acts against nausea and vomiting and prevents motion sickness.Dimenhydrinate counteracts the excess of histamine released by binding to the H1 receptors.This prevents stimulation of the vomiting center in the brain, resulting in relief from dizziness and nausea and preventing vomiting.

Vomacur® 40 mg suppositories contain the active ingredient dimenhydrinate.One suppository contains 40 mg dimenhydrinate.In addition, the medicine contains hard fat as an other ingredient.

Dosage

The dosage of Vomacur® 40 mg suppositories depends on the child's body weight.Infants weighing 8 to 15 kg should receive one suppository once daily.Children weighing 15 to 25 kg should receive one suppository twice daily.Children over 25 kg body weight should receive one suppository two to three times daily.The maximum daily dose for children aged 6 to 14 is 150 mg dimenhydrinate.Higher-dose dosage forms are available for adults.

The medicine is only intended for short-term use.If symptoms persist, a doctor should be consulted.After two weeks of treatment at the latest, a doctor should check whether further use is necessary.

Intake

Vomacur® 40 mg suppositories are not intended to be taken orally.To prevent motion sickness, the suppository should be inserted deep into the rectum about 30 to 60 minutes before the start of the journey.To treat nausea and vomiting, the suppositories should be administered at regular intervals throughout the day.

Contraindications

Vomacur® 40 mg suppositories must not be used in the event of hypersensitivity to dimenhydrinate, other antihistamines or any of the other ingredients, in acute asthma attacks, glaucoma (angle-closure glaucoma), adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), disorder of the production of blood pigment (porphyria), enlargement of the prostate gland (prostatic hyperplasia) with residual urine formation andSeizures (epilepsy, eclampsia).

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using the medication in the case of impaired liver function, cardiac arrhythmias, potassium or magnesium deficiency, slow heartbeat (bradycardia), certain heart diseases, chronic breathing problems and asthma, as well as narrowing at the outlet of the stomach (pyloric stenosis).In these cases, the medicine should only be used after consulting your doctor.

Drowsiness, memory problems and reduced ability to concentrate can have an adverse effect on the ability to drive or work with machines.This is particularly true after insufficient sleep, when starting treatment and changing medications, and in combination with alcohol.

Notes

Keep out of the reach of children.In infants and small children weighing less than 6 kg, the medicine may only be given as directed by the doctor.After using dimenhydrinate, skin sensitivity to light may occur, so avoid direct sunlight.
