Directions for use of the article Heparin-ratiopharm Sport-Gel Heparin-ratiopharm Sport-Gel is a medicinal product for reducing swelling. It is used for the supportive treatment of acute swelling following blunt injuries (bruises, haematomas) and superficial phlebitis, provided this cannot be treated by compression. The gel should be applied thinly and evenly 2-3 times a day to the affected skin area. The duration of application is usually no longer than 10 days. There are some restrictions on the use of the gel. It must not be used if you are allergic to heparin or certain fragrances, open wounds and thrombocytopenia, a drop in the number of blood platelets caused by heparin. Certain precautions should be observed during use, such as avoiding contact with mucous membranes, open or inflamed skin areas and the eyes. In case of new symptoms that may indicate thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Side effects are rare when using the gel. Possible side effects are allergic reactions to heparin, skin irritation due to excipients contained in the gel and heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.
