Heparin Ratiopharm Sport Gel, 150 g

Area of application

The gel is a medicine used to reduce swelling.It is used as a supportive treatment for acute swelling following blunt injuries such as bruises and bruises.It can also be used for superficial phlebitis if compression therapy is not possible.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in the gel is 60,000 IE heparin sodium, which is obtained from pig intestinal mucosa.Excipients include carbomer 980, isopropyl alcohol, mountain pine oil, d-limonene, PEG (36) castor oil, rosemary oil, citral, citronellol, coumarin, eugenol, geraniol, linalool, trometamol and purified water.Rosemary oil and mountain pine oil also contain various fragrances.

Contraindications

The gel must not be used if you are allergic to heparin or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Its use is also contraindicated if there is an acute or known allergic drop in the blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia type II) caused by heparin.

Dosage and application

The gel should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected area 2 to 3 times a day.It may not be used for longer than 10 days without medical advice.When used as directed, there are no known symptoms of overdose.No prescription is required for this product.

Patient information

Before using the gel you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.The gel must not be applied to mucous membranes, open or inflamed areas of skin or come into contact with the eyes as it may cause a burning sensation.If new symptoms appear that could indicate a thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, the platelet count should be checked immediately.

There are no known effects on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.Experience to date has not shown any harmful effects.Heparin does not cross the placenta and does not pass into breast milk.

Notes

One of the first measures for superficial phlebitis is pressure treatment.Because of the alcohol content, the gel should not be applied to mucous membranes, open or inflamed areas of skin, or come into contact with the eyes, as a burning sensation may occur.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
