The isotonic sodium chloride solution 0.9% Eifelfango is an infusion solution that is used for fluid and electrolyte replacement.It is used, among other things, for hypochloremic alkalosis, chloride losses, short-term intravascular volume replacement as well as hypotonic and isotonic dehydration.No prescription is required for this product.

Contraindications

The solution must not be used in overwatering conditions (hyperhydration conditions).Caution is advised in the case of reduced potassium content in the blood (hypokalemia), increased sodium content in the blood (hypernatremia), increased chloride content in the blood (hyperchloremia), as well as in diseases that require restrictive sodium intake, such as heart failure, generalized edema, pulmonary edema, hypertension, eclampsia and severe renal insufficiency.

There are no concerns about use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Dosage instructions, type and duration of application

The solution is infused intravenously.The dosage depends on the fluid and electrolyte requirements, which are usually 40 ml per kilogram of body mass per day or 2 mmol sodium per kilogram of body mass per day.The maximum infusion rate and daily dose are determined by the clinical situation.In cases of hypertonic dehydration, excessive infusion rates should be avoided.

Advice in case of overdose

Symptoms of an overdose may include overhydration, increased sodium and chloride levels in the blood (hypernatremia, hyperchloremia), hyperosmolarity and an acidotic metabolic state.In the event of an overdose, the supply of the solution should be interrupted, accelerated elimination via the kidneys should be sought and the supply of the corresponding electrolytes should be reduced.

Possible side effects include increased sodium and chloride content in the blood (hypernatremia, hyperchloremia).

Information on the shelf life of the drug

The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the carton and bottle label.Use only clear solutions in intact containers.The solution should be used immediately after opening and any remaining stock should be discarded.

1000 ml of the solution contains 9.00 g of sodium chloride.Other ingredients include water for injections and hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment.The theoretical osmolarity is 309 mOsm/l and the pH is between 4.5 and 7.0.
