Allergodil akut eye drops contain the active ingredient azelastine and are used to treat and prevent eye complaints caused by hay fever. Discomfort caused by allergies to substances such as dust mites and animal hair can also be treated with this medicine. It reduces inflammation of the eye and belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. Allergodil must not be used if you are hypersensitive to azelastine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients. A doctor, pharmacist or optician should be consulted before use if you are not sure whether your eye symptoms are allergic, if only one eye is affected, if your vision is impaired or if your eye hurts and there are no symptoms on your nose. Medical advice should also be sought if the symptoms worsen or do not improve after 48 hours. The recommended dose for adults and children aged 4 years and over is one drop in each eye in the morning and evening, while adolescents aged 12 years and over and adults should also take one drop in each eye in the morning and evening. After dropping, the eye should be closed slowly and a finger should be lightly pressed on the tear duct between the nose and the inner eyelid. Relief should come after 15-30 minutes. Side effects such as mild irritation, a bitter taste in the mouth or allergic reactions may occur. Allergodil acute should not be used for longer than 6 weeks and should not be used for longer than 4 weeks after opening the vial.
