Gaviscon Dual chewable tablets are a medicine used to treat acid-related symptoms of gastrooesophageal reflux such as heartburn, acid regurgitation and indigestion. It contains a combination of an alginate and two antacids (calcium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate) that work in two ways: it forms a protective layer over the stomach contents and neutralises excess stomach acid. The recommended dosage for adolescents 12 years and older and adults is 2-4 chewable tablets after meals and before bedtime, up to four times a day. The chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly. It is important not to exceed the prescribed dosage. The medicine is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients and should only be taken by children under 12 years of age on medical advice. During pregnancy and lactation, a doctor should be consulted before use. Possible side effects include allergic reactions to an excipient, breathing difficulties and bronchial spasm. In case of an overdose, a feeling of tightness in the abdomen may occur. The chewable tablets contain sodium alginate, sodium hydrogen carbonate and calcium carbonate and other excipients such as xylitol, carmellose sodium and aspartame.
