Instructions for use of Vitamin B6 Hevert tablets

Vitamin B6 Hevert tablets contain the active ingredient pyridoxine hydrochloride, also known as vitamin B6.This product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

The tablets are used in adults and children to treat various diseases caused by vitamin B6 deficiency.These include:

In adults:

The treatment of peripheral neuropathy caused by taking certain medicines.These medicines may contain active ingredients such as isoniazid, D-penicillamine or cycloserine.

The treatment of pyridoxine-dependent disorders.These include rare metabolic disorders such as primary hyperoxaluria type I, homocystinuria, cystathioninuria, xanthurenic aciduria or rare hematopoietic disorders such as sideroblastic anemia and hypochromic microcytic anemia caused by vitamin B6 deficiency.

For children:

The treatment of peripheral neuropathy caused by taking certain medicines.These medicines may contain active ingredients such as isoniazid, D-penicillamine or cycloserine.

Maintenance treatment after vitamin B6 deficiency-related convulsions in newborns and infants.

The treatment of pyridoxine-dependent disorders in children over 1 year of age.These include rare metabolic diseases such as primary hyperoxaluria type I, homocystinuria, cystathioninuria, xanthurenic aciduria or rare hematopoietic disorders such as sideroblastic anemia and hypochromic microcytic anemia caused by vitamin B6 deficiency.

Dosage instructions, type and duration of application

The dosage must be determined individually by the treating doctor.The following dosages are generally recommended:

In adults:

For the treatment of peripheral neuropathy due to drug-induced vitamin B6 deficiency: 50 mg to 300 mg pyridoxine hydrochloride per day.

For the treatment of pyridoxine-dependent disorders: 10 mg to 250 mg, in individual cases up to 600 mg or more, of pyridoxine hydrochloride per day.

For the treatment of pyridoxine-dependent disorders (sideroblastic anemia): dosages from 200 mg of pyridoxine hydrochloride per day.

For children:

For the treatment of peripheral neuropathy resulting from drug-induced vitamin B6 deficiency: 50 mg to 200 mg pyridoxine hydrochloride per day.

For maintenance therapy after convulsions caused by vitamin B6 deficiency in newborns and infants: 2 mg to 200 mg pyridoxine hydrochloride per day.

For the treatment of pyridoxine-dependent disorders in children over 1 year old: 10 mg to 250 mg, in the first year of life 2 mg to 15 mg pyridoxine hydrochloride per day.

To treat simple vitamin B6 deficiencies, 25 mg of pyridoxine hydrochloride per day is sufficient.

The tablets are swallowed whole with sufficient liquid.The duration of use depends on the type and severity of the underlying disease and should be discussed with the treating doctor.

Composition

1 Tablet contains:

Active ingredient: Pyridoxine hydrochloride 100 mg corresponding to 82 mg pyridoxine (vitamin B6).

Other ingredients: calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate (Ph. Eur.), corn starch, highly dispersed silicon dioxide.

Information on shelf life and storage

The medicine should no longer be used after the expiry date stated on the container and outer carton.The blister pack should be stored in the outer carton.Medicines should always be kept away from children.

Overdose and other application errors

In the event of an overdose, various symptoms may occur, such as loss of sensation in the hands and feet, movement disorders or, in extreme cases, convulsions.In acute overdose, artificially induced vomiting and administration of activated charcoal should be considered.Intensive medical measures may be necessary.

If too little amount has been taken or the dose has been forgotten, use should be continued as described in the dosage instructions.If you stop or interrupt your intake, your doctor should be consulted.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to pyridoxine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients.In children and adolescents under 18 years of age, the drug should only be used for certain applications.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, use should only be carried out after careful risk-benefit assessment by the treating doctor.

Side effects

Possible side effects can include local nerve problems with abnormal sensations, increased sensitivity of the skin to light, hypersensitivity, skin reactions such as hives or rash, circulatory collapse with a drop in blood pressure, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and nausea.If you experience any discomfort or changes during treatment, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.
