This medicine contains pyridoxine hydrochloride as an active ingredient in an amount of 100 mg per tablet, which corresponds to 82.27 mg of pyridoxine.In addition, it contains various excipients such as calcium hydrogen phosphate-2-water, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, corn starch and highly disperse silicon dioxide.

Area of application

This medicine is intended for the treatment of various diseases associated with vitamin B6 deficiency.In adults and children, it can be used to treat peripheral neuropathy caused by taking certain medications.These medicines may contain active ingredients such as isoniazid, D-penicillamine or cycloserine.In addition, it can be used to treat pyridoxine-dependent disorders, which include rare metabolic diseases such as primary hyperoxaluria type I, homocystinuria, cystathioninuria, xanthurenic aciduria or certain hematopoietic disorders such as sideroblastic anemia and hypochromic microcytic anemia.In newborns and infants, it can be used for maintenance therapy after convulsions caused by vitamin B6 deficiency.

Dosage

The dosage of this medication must be determined individually by the treating doctor.For the treatment of peripheral neuropathy due to vitamin B6 deficiency in adults, 50 mg to 300 mg of pyridoxine hydrochloride per day is usually recommended.Pyridoxine-dependent disorders may require different dosages depending on the disorder, ranging from 10 mg to 600 mg per day.Similar dosage recommendations apply to children, although the exact amount depends on age and the specific condition.Dose adjustment is usually not necessary in elderly patients or patients with impaired liver or kidney function.To treat simple vitamin B6 deficiencies, 25 mg of pyridoxine hydrochloride per day is sufficient.The duration of use depends on the type and severity of the underlying disease and should be discussed with the treating doctor.

Contraindications

You must not take this medicine if you are allergic to pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) or any of the other ingredients.No prescription is required for this product.

Intake

The tablets are swallowed whole with sufficient liquid.

Patient information

With long-term intake of daily doses of more than 50 mg of pyridoxine hydrochloride and with short-term intake of doses in the gram range, sensory disturbances can occur in the arms and legs.If you notice such symptoms, you should contact your doctor, who will check the amount you are taking and, if necessary, stop the medication.No special precautions are required to drive vehicles or operate machines.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the recommended daily intake of vitamin B6 is 1.8 mg for pregnant women and 1.7 mg for breastfeeding women, according to the recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).To date, no risks have been identified when using vitamin B6 in the recommended doses.However, the use of this preparation during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only be decided by the treating doctor after careful risk-benefit assessment.High doses of vitamin B6 can inhibit milk production and are excreted in breast milk.
