Instructions for use for Jodinat® 100 µg tablets, 100 pcs
Jodinat® 100 µg tablets
Jodinat® is a preparation used to prevent and treat iodine deficiency. It contains the active ingredient potassium iodide, which is essential for the production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function. The trace element iodine is normally absorbed through food, particularly through consumption of fish, seafood and dairy products.Insufficient iodine supply can lead to reduced production of thyroid hormones and the development of goiter, even in the unborn child.Potassium iodide can compensate for this deficiency.
No prescription is required for this product.
Areas of application
Jodinat® is used for the following indications:
To prevent goiter if there is insufficient iodine intake from food, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding. To prevent re-growth of goiter after completion of goiter treatment or after goiter surgery. For the treatment of iodine deficiency goiter in newborns, children and adolescents.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
Each tablet contains 0.131 mg potassium iodide, which corresponds to 0.1 mg iodide ion.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: carboxymethyl starch sodium type A, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, corn starch and mannitol.
Contraindications
This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to potassium iodide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. The preparation must also not be used if there is an overproduction of thyroid hormones or if there are certain nodes or areas in the thyroid that produce thyroid hormones uncontrollably.
Dosage
Always take the medicine exactly as directed. The recommended dose is:
To prevent iodine deficiency goiter if the iodine supply is inadequate: 50 - 100 micrograms iodine/day for infants and children (equivalent to ½ to 1 tablet daily), 100 - 200 micrograms iodine/day for adolescents and adults (equivalent to 1 to 2 tablets daily), and 100 - 200 micrograms iodine/day for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers (equivalent to 1 to 2tablets daily).
To prevent re-growth of goiter after completion of goiter treatment or after goiter surgery: 100 - 200 micrograms iodine/day (equivalent to 1 to 2 tablets daily).
For the treatment of goiter in newborns, children and adolescents with insufficient iodine supply: 100 - 200 micrograms iodine/day for newborns and children (equivalent to 1 to 2 tablets daily), and 200 micrograms iodine/day for adolescents (equivalent to 2 tablets daily).
The duration of treatment may vary depending on the reason for taking it.To prevent goiter growth, the medicine generally has to be taken for years, often for life.To treat goiter in newborns, a treatment period of 2 - 4 weeks is usually sufficient. For children, adolescents and adults, 6 - 12 months or more are usually required.
If you have taken more than you should, please contact your doctor immediately.Do not take a double dose if you have forgotten the previous dose, but take the usual prescribed amount the next day.
If you have any further questions, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Intake
The preparation is intended for ingestion.Take the medicine after a meal with enough liquid (e.g. half a glass of water).
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine. If you have previously had an overactive thyroid or suffered from goiter, please consult your doctor before starting therapy with this medicine. This also applies if you have an enlarged thyroid with nodules. If you need to undergo examination or therapy with radioiodine, please inform your doctor that you are taking the medicine.
The medicine has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
Pregnancy
There is an increased need for iodine during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so adequate iodine intake is particularly important. However, iodine and preparations containing iodine should only be taken after weighing up the benefits and risks if expressly prescribed by the doctor.
Notes
For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacy.
Other
Before the planned use of iodine and preparations containing iodine, it should be checked whether an overactive thyroid or a nodular goiter is present. This is especially true in adults and before planned iodine therapy, as in this situation the possibility of causing hyperthyroidism must be taken into account. In cases of suspicion, further diagnostics are indicated.
The administration of iodine (especially in high doses) or medications containing iodine can make planned treatment of hyperthyroidism, hormone-producing thyroid tumors and malignant thyroid tumors impossible. If a malignant thyroid tumor is suspected, iodine administration in any form should be avoided.
In addition, the administration of high doses of iodine can influence the thyroid examination and lead to errors if the person is predisposed to do so.This applies specifically to thyroid metabolism studies and iodine metabolism studies.
