NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories - effective against fever and pain

The NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories are an ideal solution for treating fever and pain in children, especially when taking painkillers orally is difficult due to sore throats, nausea, vomiting or febrile seizures.The suppositories are packaged in an easy-to-open blister pack and can be warmed in the hand before insertion to improve lubrication.The active ingredient ibuprofen in an age-appropriate dosage of 125 mg per suppository helps to relieve mild to moderate pain such as headaches or teething pain and to reduce fever.The fever-reducing effect begins after just 15 minutes and lasts up to eight hours.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories are suitable for the short-term symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and fever in children.They are particularly suitable when oral administration of painkillers is difficult, for example for a sore throat, nausea, vomiting or febrile seizures.The suppositories are packaged in an easy-to-open blister pack.To improve lubrication, the suppository can be warmed in the hand before insertion.

Mode of action

The fever-reducing effect of NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories begins after just 15 minutes and lasts up to eight hours.The active ingredient ibuprofen has an anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and fever-reducing effect.Ibuprofen reduces the production of prostaglandins, which are increasingly released during injuries or illnesses and are responsible for pain, inflammation and fever.

Ingredients of NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories: 125 mg ibuprofen and hard fat.Hard fat serves as a carrier and makes the suppositories easier to use.

Contraindications

NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories should not be used if you have known hypersensitivity to ibuprofen or other painkillers, if you have a history of bronchospasm, asthma, nasal inflammation or hives associated with taking acetylsalicylic acid or other painkillers, if you have stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding, if you have unexplained blood clotting disorders, if you have cerebral haemorrhage or other active bleeding, if you have severe liver, kidney or heart failure,in systemic lupus erythematosus as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Dosage

The dosage of the active ingredient ibuprofen is based on body weight and age.The maximum total daily dose of ibuprofen is 20 - 30 mg per kg of body weight.The dosing interval should not be less than 6 hours and the maximum daily dose should not be exceeded.

Dosage recommendation:

Children aged 2 - 4 years with a body weight of 12.5 - 17 kg: Single dose: 1 suppository (125 mg ibuprofen), maximum daily dose: 3 suppositories (375 mg ibuprofen).

Children aged 4 - 6 years with a body weight of 17 - 20.5 kg: Single dose: 1 suppository (125 mg ibuprofen), maximum daily dose: 4 suppositories (500 mg ibuprofen).

Intake

The suppositories are intended for use in the anus, with the pointed side of the suppository inserted first.To improve lubrication, the suppository can be warmed in the hand before insertion.

Patient information

You should not use NUROFEN® Junior 125 mg suppositories for longer than 3 days and/or in higher doses without medical advice.If possible, the suppository should be inserted deep into the anus after a bowel movement.To make insertion easier, you can warm the suppository slightly in your hand or briefly hold it in warm water.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.Do not use this medicine if you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy.It can cause kidney and heart problems in your unborn baby and affect your bleeding tendency.Avoid using this medicine in the first 6 months of pregnancy unless your doctor tells you otherwise.You can use this medicine while breast-feeding if the recommended dose is followed and it is used for the shortest possible time.

Notes

If you have pain or fever, do not use for longer than stated in the package leaflet without medical advice.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Fever

Fever is more common in children, toddlers and babies than in adolescents and adults.If the temperature is over 38.5°C, it is called fever.In newborns younger than 1 month, as little as 38 °C is considered a fever.Fever occurs when the body is fighting an underlying infection because an elevated temperature makes it harder for bacteria and viruses to multiply.Common causes of fever in children, babies and toddlers include the flu, colds, gastrointestinal infections, middle ear infections, urinary tract or kidney infections and vaccinations.

Teething

When teething, your baby's first teeth begin to push through the gums.This can result in red, sore or painful gums.This process takes about 8 days per tooth, which roughly includes the 4 days before and after the tooth erupts.

Headache

It's not just adults who suffer from headaches - children and teenagers can get them too.However, children can often experience headaches - also called cephalgia - differently than adults, which means they can go unnoticed.Accompanying symptoms of headaches in children can include abdominal and back pain, migraines or nausea.
