Area of application

This laxative is used for constipation and diseases that require easier bowel movements.However, it should not be taken daily or over a longer period of time without a doctor clarifying the cause of constipation.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The drops contain 7.5 mg sodium picosulfate 1-water and 7.23 mg sodium picosulfate as active ingredients.The excipients included are 200 mg propylene glycol, sorbitol solution 70% (non-crystallizing) with a content of 456 mg sorbitol, purified water and 0.03 BE carbohydrates.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to sodium picosulfate, related active ingredients or any of the other ingredients.Its use is also contraindicated in cases of intestinal stricture, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal complaints such as appendicitis, severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting, acute inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract or a significant lack of fluid in the body.Children under 4 years of age must not take the medicine.If you have constipation with accompanying symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever, you should see a doctor immediately.In the case of illnesses with water and mineral salt balance disorders, the medicine may only be taken under medical supervision.

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and older children is 14 to 27 drops (equivalent to 5 to 10 mg sodium picosulfate).Children aged 4 and over take a single dose of 7 to 14 drops (equivalent to 2.5 to 5 mg sodium picosulfate) as directed by a doctor.The medicine should not be taken continuously daily or over long periods of time without prior medical advice.If the effect is too strong or too weak, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

The drops are best taken in the evening, with or without liquid.The laxative effect usually occurs after 10 to 12 hours.Pay attention to the time it takes for it to take effect and do not try to force a bowel movement by straining hard.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.Children aged 4 and over should only take the medicine if prescribed by a doctor.Take special care if your symptoms occur spontaneously, last for a long time or are accompanied by symptoms such as blood in the stool or fever.Symptoms may recur after discontinuation of the drug.Dizziness and short-term loss of consciousness have been reported in patients taking sodium picosulfate.If the drug is used in the intended dosage, no impairment of the ability to drive or use machines is normally expected.However, if symptoms such as dizziness, brief loss of consciousness or abdominal cramps occur, the ability may be impaired.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.There are no meaningful clinical studies on use during pregnancy.If possible, use during pregnancy should be avoided.The active ingredient does not pass into breast milk, so the medicine can be used during breastfeeding.

No prescription is required for this product.Medical treatment of constipation is only recommended if other measures such as diet and lifestyle changes cannot achieve sufficient success.With long-term and high-dose use, increased losses of water, potassium and other electrolytes can occur, which can lead to disturbances in cardiac function and muscle weakness, especially if diuretics and cortisone are taken at the same time.
