Polysept® solution - For large-area cleaning and disinfection

Polysept® solution is a versatile antiseptic that, thanks to its dilution options, is suitable for direct skin disinfection as well as for antiseptic washes and rinses.The active ingredient povidone-iodine slowly releases iodine, which has a germicidal effect and fights bacteria, fungi as well as certain viruses and protozoa.At the same time, it protects against infections and promotes wound healing.

Polysept® is suitable for the treatment of acute injuries such as cuts and abrasions or minor burns, chronic wounds such as pressure sores and leg ulcers, infected skin diseases and wounds that are difficult to heal.It can also be used to disinfect the skin before operations, injections and blood samples.

No prescription is required for this product.

Application

Polysept® solution can be used undiluted for direct disinfection on the skin.The solution can be diluted for washing, compresses or baths.The dilution ratios for rinses are 1:2 to 1:20, for antiseptic washes 1:2 to 1:25, for antiseptic partial baths 1:25 and for antiseptic full baths 1:100.

The solution is applied to the area to be treated until completely wetted.When it dries, an antiseptic film forms that can be easily washed off with water.The brown color of the solution indicates its effectiveness.Increasing discoloration indicates a decrease in effectiveness.If the color is completely discolored, it is no longer effective.If you notice extensive discoloration of the solution, you should reapply the solution.

Ingredients

Polysept® solution contains 100 mg povidone-iodine, which corresponds to 10 mg iodine.Other ingredients include sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment and purified water.

Areas of application

Polysept® solution is used for single use as an antiseptic on the intact external skin or mucous membrane, for example before operations, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood samples and bladder catheterizations.It can be used in adults, adolescents and children aged one year and over.

The solution is germicidal and antiseptic and is effective against bacteria, fungi, certain viruses and protozoa.It promotes wound healing, especially in infected and difficult-to-heal wounds.The solution is versatile in its application and is suitable for the repeated, time-limited treatment of wounds, decubitus (pressure ulcers), leg ulcers (“open leg”), burns, for skin disinfection and care of infected skin diseases.

Polysept® solution can be used flexibly and is easy to use.It is suitable for rinsing, washing, compresses or direct application to the skin.

Contraindications

The solution must not be used if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or another existing (manifest) thyroid disease, if you have the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, before, during and after use of radio-iodine as part of radiotherapy or a diagnostic examination, if at the same timeUse preparations containing mercury or in newborns, infants and small children under one year of age.

Dosage

To create antiseptic baths, water should first be poured into the tub and then the required amount of solution to avoid discoloration of the tub due to the development of fumes containing iodine.Since iodine can be found in the environment as yellow precipitate, immediate cleaning of the tub is recommended.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the solution.Take special care when using it if you suffer from thyroid disease or have goiter.In this case, you should only use the solution over a longer period of time and over large areas if your doctor has specifically instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended (up to 3 months), early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism should be monitored.Your doctor may monitor thyroid function.

The use of the preparation can lead to temporary skin discoloration on the part of the body to be treated, which is caused by the natural color of the drug.When using the solution in the throat area, avoid swallowing, otherwise breathing difficulties and even pneumonia can occur.

The solution has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the solution should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the solution by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the nursing mother's body must be avoided.
