Polysept® solution (0.1 g/ml) - For large-area cleaning and disinfection

Polysept® solution is a versatile antiseptic that, thanks to its dilution options, is suitable for direct skin disinfection as well as for antiseptic washes and rinses.The active ingredient povidone-iodine slowly releases iodine, which has a germicidal effect and fights bacteria, fungi, certain viruses and protozoa.At the same time, it protects against infections and promotes wound healing.

Areas of application

Polysept® is suitable for treating acute injuries such as cuts and abrasions or minor burns.Chronic wounds such as pressure sores and leg ulcers as well as infected skin diseases and wounds that are difficult to heal can also be treated with it.The solution is also suitable for disinfecting the skin before operations, injections and blood samples.

Application

Polysept® solution can be used undiluted for direct disinfection on the skin.It is used diluted for washing, compresses or baths.The dilution ratios for rinses are 1:2 to 1:20, for antiseptic washes 1:2 to 1:25, for antiseptic partial baths 1:25 and for antiseptic full baths 1:100.

Ingredients

The Polysept® solution contains 100 mg povidone-iodine, equivalent to 10 mg iodine, as well as sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment and purified water as additional ingredients.

Contraindications

The solution must not be used if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.Its use is also not permitted in the case of hyperthyroidism or other existing thyroid diseases, in the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, before, during and after the use of radio-iodine as part of radiation therapy or a diagnostic examination, with the simultaneous use of preparations containing mercury and in newborns, infants and small children under one year of age.

Dosage

Recommended use of Polysept® solution:

Undiluted for direct disinfection on the skin

Diluted for ablutions, compresses or baths:

Rinses: 1:2 to 1:20

Antiseptic washes: 1:2 to 1:25

Antiseptic partial baths: 1:25

Antiseptic full baths: 1:100

Intake

Apply the solution to the area to be treated until completely wetted.When it dries, an antiseptic film forms that can be easily washed off with water.The brown color of the solution indicates its effectiveness.Increasing discoloration indicates a decrease in effectiveness.If the color is completely discolored, it is no longer effective.If you notice extensive discoloration of the solution, you should reapply the solution.

Patient information

No prescription is required for this product.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the solution.Particular caution is required when using it if you suffer from thyroid disease or have goiter.In this case, you should only use the solution over a longer period of time and over large areas if your doctor has specifically instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended, early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism should be monitored.Your doctor may monitor thyroid function.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the solution should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the solution by the infant through the mouth through contact with the treated part of the nursing mother's body must be avoided.
