Polysept solution is a solution for disinfection of the external skin or antisepsis of the mucous membrane before medical procedures. It can also be used to treat wounds, burns and skin diseases. It contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine. There are certain situations in which Polysept solution must not be used, e.g. in case of allergy to iodine or thyroid disease. Precautions should be taken, especially in children and the elderly. There are also interactions with certain other medicines. Possible side effects include skin reactions, allergic reactions and effects on the thyroid gland and metabolism. If side effects occur, treatment should be interrupted and a doctor consulted. The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and the expiry date should be observed. Polysept solution is available in 30 ml, 100 ml and 1000 ml packs.
