Dona 250 mg coated tablets are a medicine used to relieve symptoms of mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee joint. They belong to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic agents. The recommended dose is 500 mg of glucosamine hemisulphate three times a day. The tablets should be taken unchewed with meals. Glucosamine is not suitable for the treatment of acute painful symptoms, as relief of symptoms only occurs after a few weeks. If no relief is noted after 2-3 months, the treatment should be reviewed. The medicine contains glucose and sucrose, so patients with diabetes should be aware of this. It also contains the active ingredient glucosamine hemisulphate sodium chloride from shellfish. Side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Patients with known hypersensitivities to the ingredients should not use the medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not use it.
