Directions for use Mucofalk Apple Granules sachet Mucofalk Apple Granulate contains ground Indian psyllium husks as the active ingredient. It is used for the treatment of prolonged constipation, diseases in which easier bowel evacuation with soft stools is desired, such as anal fissures, haemorrhoids and painful bowel evacuation after surgical procedures in the rectal region. It is also used as a supportive treatment for diarrhoea of various causes and conditions where an increase in daily fibre intake is sought, such as irritable bowel syndrome when constipation is the main concern. The use of Mucofalk Apple is contraindicated in cases of allergy to psyllium, sudden change in bowel habits, dysphagia, blood in the stool, pathological constriction in the gastrointestinal tract, disease of the oesophagus or the entrance to the stomach and impending or existing intestinal obstruction, intestinal paralysis or pathological enlargement of the colon. The following warnings and precautions should be observed: - Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have constipation with unexplained abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. - Mucofalk apple should always be taken with sufficient liquid, otherwise blockage of the throat, airways or oesophagus may occur. - If chest pain, vomiting, difficulty swallowing or breathing occurs after ingestion, a doctor should be consulted immediately. - If constipation or stool irregularities persist during use, Mucofalk Apple should be discontinued and a doctor consulted. - Use in debilitated or elderly patients should be adequately monitored. Mucofalk apple in combination with certain medicinal products can lead to delays in their absorption into the blood. Therefore, a time interval of about 1/2 to 1 hour should be observed between the intake of Mucofalk apple and other medicinal products. The recommended dose of Mucofalk Apple is: - For the treatment of chronic constipation and conditions where the aim is to facilitate bowel emptying: Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over take the contents of one sachet 2 to 3 times a day. - For the supportive treatment of diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome: adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over take the contents of one sachet 2 to 6 times a day. The medicine should never be taken dry, but should always be taken with sufficient liquid (at least 150 ml). Possible side effects of Mucofalk Apple are flatulence and bloating, especially with insufficient fluid intake. Hypersensitivity reactions may also occur, such as runny nose, redness of the eyes, breathing difficulties, skin reactions and itching. Mucofalk apple should be kept out of the reach of children.
