Directions for use of Medihoney Antibacterial Wound Gel: Medihoney Antibacterial Wound Gel contains a mixture of different honeys that have been individually tested for their antibacterial activity. This mixture has both osmotic and peroxide-dependent and -independent antibacterial effects. The product consists of 80% of this honey mixture and also contains vegetable fats that give the gel a more viscous consistency. When applied to the wound, a moist film forms which keeps the wound moist and provides an additional barrier against germs. The gel should not be applied to deep wounds as it can be difficult to rinse out. Medihoney Antibacterial Wound Gel is also suitable for diabetics and does not significantly affect blood sugar. However, it is recommended that blood glucose levels are monitored when treating diabetics. The wound gel has been shown to have the following properties: Inhibition of bacteria on the wound bed, autolytic debridement, antibacterial environment, odour elimination of malodorous wounds and creation of a moist wound environment to aid healing.
