Directions for use of the article Imodium akut Hartkapseln bei akutem Durchfall: Imodium akut contains the active substance loperamide hydrochloride and is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over if no causative therapy is available. The duration of treatment should not exceed two days unless prescribed and supervised by a doctor. The dosage depends on age. Adolescents 12 years and older should start with an initial dose of 1 hard capsule and take additional capsules as needed after each unformed stool. The maximum daily dose is 4 hard capsules. Adults take 2 hard capsules as an initial dose and then 1 hard capsule after each unformed stool, with a maximum daily dose of 6 hard capsules. The hard capsules should be taken unchewed with some liquid. Use in children under 12 years of age is not recommended due to the high active ingredient content. Important information: Imodium akut contains lactose and should therefore not be used in people with an intolerance to lactose. If diarrhoea persists after 2 days of treatment, a doctor should be consulted. Various side effects may occur, such as gastrointestinal complaints, dry mouth, headache, tiredness and dizziness. If symptoms persist or changes occur during treatment, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted. Imodium acute is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, constipation, acute ulcerative colitis, liver disease and chronic diarrhoea. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It should be stored out of reach of children and the expiry date should be observed. Imodium akut contains the active substance loperamide hydrochloride, lactose monohydrate, maize starch, talc, magnesium stearate, gelatine and colouring of the capsule shell. Imodium akut acts directly on receptors in the intestinal area and can reduce intestinal movements and cause muscle tension in the sphincter.
