Area of application

The medicine is a powder containing sodium picosulfate and magnesium citrate.Sodium picosulfate acts as a bowel-stimulating laxative, while magnesium citrate causes thorough bowel emptying and cleansing by retaining fluid in the bowel.It is used in adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and over to cleanse the colon before an X-ray, colonoscopy or surgery if clinically necessary.No prescription is required for this product.

The active ingredients of the drug are sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide and citric acid.The other ingredients include potassium bicarbonate, saccharin sodium, natural spray-dried orange flavor, arabic gum, ascorbic acid, butylated hydroxyanisole and lactose.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide, citric acid or any of the other ingredients.The medicine should also not be used in cases of insufficient gastric emptying, stomach or intestinal ulcers, severe kidney disease, intestinal perforation or intestinal obstruction, acute illnesses, heart failure, active inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, increased magnesium levels in the blood, dehydration or muscle damage with excretion of muscle components into the blood.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.Adults and children aged 9 years and over take the dissolved contents of the first sachet 10 to 18 hours before the examination or procedure and the dissolved contents of the second sachet 4 to 6 hours beforehand.After the first dose, 250 ml of clear liquid should be drunk at least 5 times and after the second dose, 250 ml of clear liquid should be drunk at least 3 times.Children under 9 years of age receive the appropriate dose with a measuring spoon.The success of the examination depends on thorough bowel emptying.

Intake

Dissolve the powder in a cup of cold water and drink the solution.Adults and children aged 9 and over take the first sachet 10 to 18 hours and the second sachet 4 to 6 hours before the examination.Children under 9 years of age receive the dose according to their age using a measuring spoon.Drink plenty of clear fluids during treatment to replenish fluid loss.The success of the examination depends on thorough bowel emptying.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have recently had abdominal surgery, have heart disease or impaired kidney function, or have inflammatory bowel disease.Drink enough fluids and minerals during treatment.The duration of the intestinal cleansing should not exceed 24 hours.The medicine has no effect on your ability to drive, but you should be able to go to the toilet at any time while the effect lasts.
