Mepilex Border Ag is a self-adhesive, antimicrobial foam dressing with gentle silicone.It absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and has antimicrobial properties.The dressing contains silver sulfate, which forms an effective barrier against bacteria and inactivates a variety of wound-related pathogens, including fungi.This effect has been demonstrated in vitro.By reducing microorganisms, Mepilex Border Ag can also reduce odors.

The dressing consists of several layers: a Safetac wound contact layer made of soft silicone, an absorbent wound dressing made of polyurethane foam with silver sulfate and activated carbon, a layer of superabsorbent fibers, a non-woven fabric and a breathable, waterproof film.Safetac is Mölnlycke's proprietary adhesive technology that minimizes patient pain and injury to intact skin or wounds.In vitro, Mepilex Border Ag has been shown to inactivate wound-related pathogens for up to seven days.

Mepilex Border Ag offers rapid (from 30 minutes, in vitro), sustained (up to 7 days, in vitro) and comprehensive antimicrobial action (in vitro).It also enables efficient exudate management by minimizing leakage and high absorption, retention and MVTR, which could reduce the number of dressing changes.

Scope of application

Mepilex Border Ag should be used by or under the supervision of a healthcare professional.Local hygiene procedures must be followed before and after dressing changes.According to standard clinical practice, clean the wound with saline or water and carefully dry the surrounding skin.Choose the appropriate dressing size and ensure that the absorbent dressing covers the wound bed and overlaps the wound edges.Remove the protective films and place the adhesive side on the wound without stretching it.

Each Mepilex Border Ag dressing can remain on the wound for up to 7 days depending on the patient, the condition of the wound and the surrounding skin or according to clinical practice.Initially it may be necessary to change Mepilex Border Ag more frequently as a change in treatment regimen can often result in an initial increase in exudation.Mepilex Border Ag is intended for short-term use of up to 4 weeks.Re-evaluation by a doctor is recommended for continued use.

In the event of a clinical infection, Mepilex Border Ag does not replace the need for systemic or other adequate infection treatment.The interaction of Mepilex Border Ag with cleaning products, oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions/hydrogen peroxide and topical treatments has not been proven.Remove Mepilex Border Ag before starting radiotherapy if product is in the treatment area.After treatment, a new bandage can be applied.When taking electronic measurements, such as electrocardiograms (ECG) and electroencephalograms (EEG), avoid contact with electrodes or conductive gels.

Precautions

Mepilex Border Ag should be stored dry at below 25°C/77°F and protected from direct sunlight.Disposal must be carried out in accordance with local environmental regulations.
