Area of application

The medicine contains the active ingredient nystatin, which is used to treat fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes.It is particularly suitable for the local treatment of oral thrush and for cleaning the intestines in the event of yeast infestation.The suspension is particularly suitable for newborns, small children and patients with swallowing difficulties.No prescription is required for this product.If you do not feel better or feel worse after 7 days, contact your doctor.

The active ingredient in this medicine is nystatin.1 ml of the suspension contains 100,000 IU nystatin.The other ingredients include sucrose, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (parabens E 216, E 218), sodium monohydrogen phosphate, glycerol, carmellose sodium, ethanol 96%, cinnamaldehyde, peppermint oil, cherry flavor and purified water.

Contraindications

The product should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients mentioned.It is not suitable for the treatment of systemic fungal infections.

Dosage

The recommended dose for children aged 2 years and over and adults, depending on the severity of the disease, is 0.5 - 1.5 ml suspension 4 times daily after meals.Newborns and small children receive 0.5 - 1 ml suspension 4 times daily.For prevention in seriously ill patients, the same dosage can be used to prevent the growth of yeast in the intestines.Treatment of oral thrush should be continued for 2 - 3 days after the visible signs of the disease have disappeared.For yeast infections of the gastrointestinal tract, treatment should generally be carried out for 2 weeks.

Intake

In the case of oral thrush, the medicine should be dripped into the mouth using the pipette after meals and distributed in the mouth for at least 1 minute in order to achieve good wetting of the entire oral cavity.To cleanse the intestines, the medicine is swallowed after use in the mouth.If there is no oral thrush, the suspension can be swallowed straight away or, in seriously ill patients with difficulty swallowing, administered via a stomach tube.In these cases the suspension can also be given before meals.The bottle should be shaken vigorously before use and the suspension can be drawn up with the pipette to the desired mark (0.5 or 1 ml).

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine.This suspension is not suitable for the treatment of systemic fungal infections.Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended.The preparation has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.At therapeutic doses, nystatin is hardly absorbed through intact skin or mucous membranes after oral administration.Nystatin does not cross the placenta and is not expected to pass into breast milk.The medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding after weighing the benefits and risks.

Notes

The solution is particularly suitable for infants, small children and those with difficult swallowing.The medicine is not suitable for treating a fungal infection of the internal organs (systemic mycosis).If a hypersensitivity reaction occurs, the drug should be discontinued and appropriate treatment administered.It is recommended to confirm the presence of a fungal infection through a special examination by a doctor or, if there is no response to the medicine, to review the treatment.When treating fungal infections, all fungal foci on the skin and mucous membranes must be eliminated in order to avoid relapses caused by untreated fungal foci.
