Instructions for use for Mezym F gastro-resistant tablets, 50 pcs
Description of the drug
This medicine contains digestive enzymes obtained from the pancreas of pigs. These enzymes are called pancreatic powder or pancreatin.
Areas of application
The preparation is used to treat digestive disorders caused by reduced or absent pancreatic function.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The main active ingredients of this medicine are porcine pancreas powder, which contains enzymes such as triacylglycerol lipase, amylase and proteases. In addition, it contains various excipients, including azorubine, carmellose sodium salt, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, Eudragit L 30 D-55, hypromellose, lactose-1-water, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, sodium hydroxide, polysorbate 80, colloidal silicon dioxide, simeticone emulsion, talc, titanium dioxide, triethyl citrate and sodium ions.
Contraindications
This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to pancreas powder, pork or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. It is also not applicable for acute inflammation of the pancreas or during an acute episode of chronic inflammation of the pancreas. However, in the subsiding phase of chronic inflammation, the medicine can occasionally be used to relieve indigestion.
Dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.The recommended dose is 2 to 4 tablets per meal, equivalent to 20,000 to 40,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase per meal. The dosage depends on the severity of the indigestion and may be higher. The dose should only be increased under medical supervision and should be aimed at improving the symptoms of the disease. The daily enzyme dose should not exceed 15,000 to 20,000 units of lipase per kilogram of body weight. For children, the dosage should be determined by the doctor.
The duration of use is not limited and depends on the course of the disease. If you don't feel better or even feel worse, contact your doctor. In the event of an overdose, you should drink plenty of water and contact your doctor or pharmacist.Repeated high doses may cause scarring or thickening of the intestinal wall, which may cause intestinal blockage.Extremely high doses can cause an increase in uric acid in the blood and urine in cystic fibrosis patients.
If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose, but please continue treatment as recommended. If you stop taking it, your symptoms may return. In this case, consult your doctor.
Intake
Take the medicine whole with plenty of liquid, preferably in the middle of the meal.Make sure to swallow the tablets whole, as the medicine loses its effect when chewed and the enzymes it contains can damage the mucous membrane if released into the oral cavity. You should drink plenty of fluids (water or juice).
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.A rare intestinal disorder called "fibrosing colonopathy" has been reported in patients with cystic fibrosis taking high-dose pancreas powder products.Tell your doctor if you suffer from cystic fibrosis and take more than 10,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase per kilogram of body weight per day.As a precautionary measure, any unusual abdominal discomfort or changes in abdominal symptoms should be investigated.
If an allergic reaction occurs, stop your treatment and talk to your doctor. An allergic reaction could include itching, hives, or rash.In some cases, a serious allergic reaction may occur, which includes symptoms such as severe skin reactions, swelling, feeling warm, dizziness and fainting, difficulty breathing and rapid heartbeat. These are symptoms of a serious, potentially life-threatening condition called "anaphylactic shock."If this occurs, call for medical help immediately.
The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicines. There is insufficient experience with the use of the drug in pregnant women. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you should not take this medicine unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
Notes
No prescription is required for this product. If you have any further questions about using the medicine, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Other
In the case of cystic fibrosis, the amount of intake necessary for adequate fat digestion should not be exceeded. An increase in the amount taken should only be done under medical supervision and should be aimed at improving the symptoms.A daily intake of 15,000 to 20,000 units of the lipase contained per kg of body weight should not be exceeded. If you have cystic fibrosis, have your urine checked regularly (risk of uric acid stone formation).
